My 1st render

My 1st render

Hey all...

Just a quick render i did while playing around in 3d studio max 5...

Hopefully i will be teaching myself some modelling soon... My aim is to be able to make a 3d model of my car by the end of the year... Lets see if i can reach that goal...

I like this one. Maybe if you change a background a bit

How long has it taken you to get to this point? Is it a pretty steep learning curve?

Renesis, altho that pic looks fairly complex... It was quite simple to make... All i done was created a torus knot, then played around with the settings/config of the object till i came up with a shape that looks kinda cool... Increased the poly count to make it nice n smooth looking... Applied one of the standard materials to it, then rendered it...

NDC, i'm currently running winXP. System specs are pretty low for rendering work. 933mhz P3 (@ 1050mhz. 150mhz FSB), 768mb PC133 (@ 150mhz), gf4 ti4200 etc....

hey not bad for a first render, am i seeing the relection map of a sky? good job, id say you should keep a steady pace of learning if you have this as a first render. Modeling your car should be no problem, i think you could pull it off in 3 months or so with about 2 hours a day put into it. i know it took me quite a while to get my first "scene" done which was a cottage home with a tree, but what once took me 2 weeks to do now takes me 4 hours.

let me get technical personally, what would make that look totally stellar would be go go to the diffuse properties, and make a gradent texture with the texture value starting around 10% and halfway down the texture bar, up the texture value to 100%, set the usage to "incidence angle" this causes your toroids to look like glass, or metal coated in glass. [i hope you got all that ]

keep up the good work!
