Some more info would help if this is a new install have you edited the gallery_config.php file with the proper server path to your forum?

If you have access to cPanel with your hosting package you can go to Error Logs and it will tell you exactly what is causing the internal server error. For me the two most common reasons are either a typo in .htaccess (dent from... instead of deny from...) but more often it's from having a directory set to 0777 permissions when it shouldn't be. The server is just protecting your web site.

Yes very generic error. It is usually permissions or paths

Your gallery directory should not be writable.
Your gallery directory should be the normal 755 permissions. Your files and user directories under the gallery directory need to be 777 permissions.
