First test: VB4 beta3 ->vbgallery

Well finally, i tested vbgallery with the beta3 :(

First.. i don't like the class programming of vb4...
comparing vbulletin only pages
+10 queries per page.. and + 30% memory usage.. but its a beta.. so we will see..

As to vbgallery...
Install went flawlessly... (that's good news..)
Only 1 image (rating) it couldn't find.. but that will be an easy fix..

Then to the functionality...
That's a bummer...

eval fetch_template doesnt exist anymore.. (well it does but triggers an error giving a warning at each call..)
(the good thing is that the warnings are triggered by vbulletin, they added :
Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
So that's not bad for debugging...

Actually, without a new version, gallery is unusable as is for vb4.
At first sight.. it needs..
  • a complete rewrite of gallery_global.php
  • Small rewrites of functions_gallery
  • a partial rewrite of the 10 main files (replacing fetch_template with $templater = vB_Template::create(...

  • a complete rewrite of the templates (Thats the BIG part)
Its not that hard.. but, it will be very time intense.
(and here is my suggestion)
So Michael, forget about dating, girls, food, drinks and holidays B=0
Its going to be lots of work! :p

More seriously, i think it is feasible, and will work nicely..
But I suggest you don't upgrade to vb4 if you are in production environment

LOL yes we know all this ;)

Michael is working on vbgallery and I am working on the other 3 products Pro, Classifieds and Reviewpost. As soon as I took a look at vb4 I knew vbGallery was gonna be in trouble.

I dont mind there new template calls thats okay but yes I agree there new class calls are just plain weird. Nothing is universal really which means making mods is gonna be fun. Finding classes to wrap the pro templates in the ol li and div tags was fun to say the least.

The templates are going to be a bear because of how vB4's new template system works. I got through the install, too; modified the fetch/render stuff, but the whole way variables are used in templates needs to be updated and that's the part I am still trying to get a handle on.

None of the classes work anymore. Now if you load the correct stylesheets you can use subforumdescription for tcat. Aside from this if your looking to keep existing table structures then you need to wrap the html with the stuff I pointed out when I was doing Pro. Yeah a bear for sure.

Well i want to get rid of the table structure..
I am working on a template.. without tables.. got index working (for all except FF2 - FF3 is ok.. ) but as always...

i got new ideas.. and implementing those.. takes time... (one of those ideas i had yesterday, was putting the image array for newest images into datastore... saving a query on forum home , gallery index etc... )

(what happens when a new image is uploaded.. it gets added as first element of the array, and last element is deleted.. so you are always up to date..)

I ll start with the tablefree imagebit this weekend..

Just installed a fresh install of vB4. I am in it for the CMS I now there is a long way to go before the gold will come. But I must say this is a nice start for vB

Hoping to see a nice integration from you guy's in the end :)

Keep up the good work

When new version come out?

Chuck S December 22nd, 2009 09:24 AM

It is still being worked on. vbGallery requires a complete rewrite to work with vbulletin 4 and we have only had access to vb for about 6 weeks now.

Shadown December 22nd, 2009 10:01 AM

Eny version? Beta?

What cost update vBgallery (active lisence) to PhotoPost?

Chuck S December 22nd, 2009 10:04 AM

We will make an announcement when vbgallery supports vbulletin 4

If you have the ability to download photopost pro in your members area and your license is active there would be no cost to switch to Pro.

Shadown December 22nd, 2009 10:13 AM

But, I have original vBGallery's lisence. I haven't authority download PhotoPost.

Chuck S December 22nd, 2009 11:48 AM

Then if you never purchased the product from us and vbadvanced then you would need to purchase a photopost pro license.

Shadown December 22nd, 2009 12:00 PM

And then cost 129$ -20% (though i have active vbgallery lisence and support to vbgallery is very bad and all others version PhotoPost include vB4 support right now)?

Chuck S December 22nd, 2009 12:02 PM

any other photopost products support vb4 correct

Not sure what you mean by vbgallery support is bad its the same support no matter what product you have. The fact of the matter here is vbgallery requires alot more work than the others to integrate and we can not rewrite an entire application in only 6 weeks just cant happen.

Hmmh.. ok.

But, why i must pay new lisence? Why upgrade lisence not enough?
