VBGallery... what's up?

Hi there,

9 month ago I downloaded the version 2.43.
Since that time there were no updates, no bug fixes.

I bought a professional script for getting updates and support.

At this time I think, the cost free gallery scripts on vbulletin.org has more support than this paid script.

Now vb 3.8 is out and my question is:

Will we get updates for the PhotoPost VB Gallery which will remove all the bugs of the version 2.4.3 ?

Thank you!

Actually any bug fixes where added to the code. We currently are trying to release version 2.5 shortly to beta.

Thank you!

In general I agree to Mike.

I am missing a lot of bug fixes and updates for pp and vbgallery.
I also do not have the feeling that actual suggestions are really take into account.

Take a look at this forum here. There are no areas for posting vB 3.7 or even 3.8 issues/wishes/questions.

In the very first beginning pp was a real good product with excellent support.
Also vBGallery was very nice and up to date.
Then vBGallery was bought from the pp people and since then I see the product dying a long silent death.

PP or vBGallery images on forumhome needs more attention.
Adding images to posts (like you can do it with an geek product) is not possible, multi language support is bad and so on....
To be fair, I know that pp is more or less a stand alone product with vB integration support but in the past I had the feeling support and implementation was much better than now.
Sorry that I have to be so honest and direct and I don't want anyone to take this personal.

Nothing taken personally ;)

However just to respond with what I feel is the truth from someone who lives this everyday!

Support is the same now as it was then. This has not changed in anyway. People have a problem they get timely answers to their issues and our forums show this with most posts answered within a small timeframe.

The implementation of how we handle integration is still the same and in most regards we have added more features than was possible years ago. Look at the vbulletin integrated templates they did not exist in Photopost Pro from when your talking about years ago. There are numerous other additions to the program. it is not the same program it was back in like 4.8 series.

As far as vbGallery I can tell you the product we got back when it was 1.0( the initial release) was bug ridden and in terrible shape. Our support forums confirm this as we had a flood of issues that where never fixed when it was released as a finished product by that other company. We fixed all bugs and have released many versions since then supporting many different versions of vbulletin in the process. The current product is 2.43 and 2.5 is almost ready to go out the door.

Now as most users know 90% of the features implemented in any of our products are user suggestions so I feel your comment that suggestions are not taken into account is pretty harsh there. Now suggestions are looked at and prioritized. Just because something you want is not added does not mean it has not been looked at considered etc. Michael has to make choices when he looks at the huge list of suggestions.

I think the feeling is also based on the following.
Old vB releases could not deal with pictures at all, only as attachments.
vBGallery and pp closed the gap.
Now we got the albums in vBulletin. Features are very limited and you cannot directly compare vBGallery and pp to that but for a lot of boards this is already enough and product addons add a lot of functionality to this vB function so that the space between the products is becoming smaller.
While I see vB adding more and more functions I am waiting for the big bang within vBGallery and pp to make it more clearer to my users why they should use the gallery I payed for and not the small but simple built in solution.

You also know that I started begging here for more multi language support a while ago. In this area the album function is fine cause its following the overall vB concept that everything should be phrased (to be fair also Jelsoft has gaps there :-))
I don't like to present my board to my users very well translated but then have a major area (the gallery) where this is not the case.
Beside the fact that I only run private boards where this is not sooooo important for me as admin, I can understand the users and it would be a reason to not use your products (pp) when I should setup a commercial board supporting more than one language.

btw. please add a FLUID style to your board. I hate it using a 24" monitor and then having a board which fits into my browsers sidebar ;)

You have some good points about suggestions so feel free to add them to the respective forums for consideration by Michael.

The point I was making though is you made some broad claims that vbgallery had not been developed and Photopost Pro has not come along way in years in fact you said things where not as good as they use to be whereas the facts here is support here is great compared to alot of products as alot of users will tell you. The applications themselves are nowhere near the what they where years ago. Thats can be seen comparing old and new galleries. If we had not developed and supported vbGallery users would not have had versions compatible for 3.5 through 3.8 of vbulletin let alone all the bug fixes.
