Problems with safe_mode turned on

I've noticed that vBGallery does not work when safe_mode is turned on.

This can be solved by setting the hidden setting insafemode to 1, but this causes all images to be written in the files folder - instead of files/u/s/e/r/i/d.

This may cause problems with a large amount of files.

It is a manual setting @ the moment.

Click the 'Change File Storage Method' button below to turn the safemode bypass On.

If set to "Off" this will enable php safe-mode.
If set to "On" this will operate with out php safemode.

Anyway, the problem of all files getting written to files/ instead files/u/s/e/r/i/d in safemode persists?

I'm using VBGallery 2.2 and have tried to use the Safe Mode bypass as described. However, when I click the 'Yes' button on the 'Change File Storage Method' page, I get a blank page in the Admincp frame.

Do you have any suggestions?
