| I Have Been Pwnd I picked the best time to buy vB and vBa gallery.... When it's brand new.
On one hand, I feel like I'm a moron for not being able to customize it, then on the other hand, it's like "Why doesn't it already do that?"
EVERYONE and their mother knows that when you click the friggin forum logo, it takes you back to the forum index. I had to manualy add my gallery link and now when members click to go to the gallery, they're asked to login a second time.
To ice the cake, the "breadcrumbs" (the little trail of links just above the navbar) does not link back to the forum index in any shape, way or form. Your only options to get back to the forum is either manually typing the URL or repeatedly clicking the back button.
Frustrated, I submitted what vBa calls a "support" ticket. I gave these guys my ftp and my admin login information and waited 10 hours, only for them to tell me: "Nope. Ours does 'this' and that's the way it is."
And I'll tell you this: I used a board with Invision Gallery and the integration is seamless. It adds a link to your navbar so you don't have to do crazy hacks- it's the difference for this solid integration? 5 bucks. Too bad Invision doesn't make a gallery foir vB...
And that's just pertaining to this particular problem. And to be honest, the only reason I bought vBa was because of my limited choices in galleries.
And what does it come with?
*Some crazy copyright at the bottom with a link back to vBadvanced that I'm not supposed to remove... Invision Gallery doesn't have that, why does vBa? I don't want my members running off and buying this.
*Keep my URL on file here?
I'm trying to stay on the down-low, you hear? I don't want anybody keeping a file on me. It's bad enough vBulletin has one... I mean, it's just stupid.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the product, I'm just saying what my problems with it are. The gallery is 'decent' I'll give it that- works like a gallery- uploads images like it's supposed too- But it's a model of coppermine, photopost and it's other compeditors... Hey, did anyone ever think to model after a decent gallery such as deviantART?
Now there's an idea!
Instead of having all that crap on the images listing, why not clean it up with a hover effect? LIKE THIS: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
Why not add the users Most recent submission to their profile page? LIKE THIS: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
And while we're at it, can't we kill Members' Categories all together and just give each member their own gallery page? LIKE THIS: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
Like I said, I'm not bashing the product. I'm just killing time and giving my feedback while I'm anxiously awaiting to hear from support. |

vBulletin has no feature for links to automatically be added to the navbar, so you have to edit the template. That's the way vBulletin is, and has nothing to do with Gallery.
If you want your header logo to link to your site index, then edit vBulletin's header template. Mine does. ( http://www.fireblades.org/gallery - Click my logo.) That has nothing to do with Gallery itself though, since the header it a global vBulletin template.
If you are being asked to login again when you go to your gallery, then I can only assume that you have it set up under a subdomain like gallery.yourdomain.com and you don't have your cookies properly defined in the vBulletin Options section of AdminCP. If you want the cookies to be available to anything.yourdomain.com, you need to enter .yourdomain.com for the cookie domain. (Note the single period at the beginning.)
As for the other layouts, that's why it's all template based. You can make it look how you want. The layout is pretty much "standard' for a gallery. I definately do not like the examples you posted, so I for one am glad that it's the way that it is. But, you saw that before you bought it, so you already knew how it looked...
Just like with vBulletin, you can purchase the branding free option and you can definately remove the link from the footer.

Comming from someone who's been conditioned to their product...
The "layout" I posted was none other than deviantART: One of the largest websites in the world with over 2 million registered users and 13 million submissions... Even their subdomains are PR7's.
So yea, some loyal vBa fanatic with a mere 4,241 image gallery preferrs vBa over the single largest art community in existance... That's some serious taste you got there. |

| I modified my other site to do this, but it's currently down. When my current project gets enough donations to where I can buy vBa Gallery for it, I will re-create it and release it here.

And how much have you gathered so far?

Who are you, recommending this, a 16 year old? You know, there's girls out there you should be chasing.
And even IF he was an artist... His little board is of no consequnce to me when: This product is not working correctly for me.
How is some army guy's little war gallery going to change that? Now go write your own damn testemonial.

You complained about my measly 4,000 images, so I pointed you to a vBa Gallery user that has 330,000. How many images do you have in your Gallery?

Speaking of trolls... You've been *****ing and groaning here, and on vBulletin.com since the time you bought vBulletin recently. If you like IB, and IB's Gallery, and they way they work, and all these other ones you keep listing, then why didn't you just go with those in the first place?
And, for the record, my first reply was one with tips/suggestions/help, and you're the one that starts slinging insults. I think we all know who the 16 year old is here...

Is it not working correctly...? or not working in the manner you requie...? There is a difference.
There's loads of people here who are more than willing to help you customise the Gallery, to help you make it look the way you want it to. However, there is a certain amount of attitude in your post here that is not conducive to getting people to actually want to help you... you do want people to help you yeah...?
So, if you have decided to continue using Brians excellent vBA Gallery product, feel free to post questions asking how to go about how to go doing what it is you want to accomplish in a polite and friendly manner - just as all other members of this forum do - and I am sure you'll get all the help you need.
Have a good day.

I know that. But me? I've been on the other side of the fence. So I can see from the outside looking in.
But what's the point in giving a testemonial if people are going to knock it? Everyone has the potential to make a great product if they'd listen and learn. It's a decent gallery... I've allready said that. There are people who will say it's horrible- and that it's ugly. Obviously, not anyone here, so you don't really need to say anything. We all know that a vBa user is going to have a positive opinion. To the genius who says "why don't you use invision gallery, har har?":
I do. Just not on my vBulletin. The only reason I keep brining it up is because it's solid as a rock and overall... Better. For the guy who's feelings I hurt by calling him a troll:
That's just me. I get an attitude with people who post exactely what I think they're going to post before they even post. Because I've said it 15 times about the fanatic thing. Of course you're gonna back up your product! What's new? Let me post my review on this product and you go post your own!
See, I know exactly what you're thinking right now: "This is a public forum, open to anyone to posts and..."
Must be a universal catch phrase. Works well when a lion has you backed into a corner.
But there's nothing special about the gallery... (at least, that I've seen) not one single distinguishable element that seperates it from all the other galleries. It's a clone... And for that reason, I figure it would function in a suitable manner as all the other clones.
Out of the box, whether it does or doesn't work well, whether it doesn't work up to my expectations, bla bla bla... It doesn't work for me. Period. And my ticket... Let's just not even go there. Can I hack it? Maybe. If the difficulty is medium. But I'll still have to wait 3 months, because as you can see there's only 1 topic in the 3.5 hacks form and it was a request... BY ME!
Ain't it awesome that the only one with the balls to speak truth is a girl.

The only "review" I posted was my thoughts on the other layout.

The only "review" I posted was my thoughts on the other layout. | Maybe I feel strongly about deviantART as you do to vBa? It's a great site. Even army people submit there.
I mean, I appreciate your help and my frustration for vBa was let out on you because you're the nearest poster. I'm sorry... And I'm also sorry that a girl who has voice automatically has a "tude".
Believe me, that's always the case.

Posting your opinions and such is fine - That is exactly what this forum is for. Other people are going to have different opinions as well. If you can't respect that and you're going to continue calling names and having an attitude towards those who are trying to help you, then we will have no choice but to ban you from the forums.
It seems the things you're complaining about though could have been solved by taking two very simple steps.
1). Trying out the demo. If you had thoroughly explored the demo as anyone should before buying a product, then you would know exactly what options and features there were and what things looked like.
2). Reading the license agreement. If you had read the license agreement before making the purchase then you would know that it was required to submit the URL where you planned on using this script. What is this used for? Support. If you have a problem, one of the first things we're probably going to do is to go find the URL so we can take a look at things for ourselves. This is the only thing we will ever use that information for.
Regarding your comment on how much CS gets paid to post here - Nothing. We're fortunate enough to have him, along with a few other people, who spend countless hours on here helping others. Fortunatly as well, most people are much more thankful when they receive help and assistance instead of flinging insults back at them.
And as for your claim about your support ticket, you submitted it at 5:55 AM on a Sunday morning and had a reply at 11:48 AM. That's a lot closer to 6 hours than 10, and not too bad for tech support on a Sunday morning.
