Easy MOD req - set max Width AND Height of Thumbnails

Easy MOD - set max Width AND Height of Thumbs

Right now thumbnails have only one number associated with their dimensions for both width and height. So the height is automatically limited to the same number as width. This can cause problems with people who are as concerned about thumbnail height as they are width. I might want to limit my thumbs to 130x100, for example. This presents a much nicer dislpay in certain circumstances. It should be fairly trivial to implement this, though I don't want to dig too much through the code (I added this small mod myself to vbgarage).

Any help on this?

Re: Easy MOD req - set max Width AND Height of Thumbnails

When it's resized, the height will be proportional to the width. So if you have thumbnails set to 150 wide, and someone uploads a 1024x768 image, the thumbnail will be 150x113. If they upload a 768x1024 image, the thumbnail will be 150x200.

If you want to force it to 130x100, the images will be out of proportion and will look skewed.

Actually, using your example of 130x100 would be a little closer. A 1024x768 image scaled down to 130 pixels wide, would be 98 pixels high. So in that case, it would probably look ok forces to 130x100. You'll run into problems when users upload images that are strange dimensions though.

Old post, but I really would like this option. You can simply add code that says if the image is over x height, then scale the width down to maintain the aspect ratio. Likewise, if it is over the max width, is scales the height down. This is not that complicated -- it's just not implemented in the code. It would be nice, for example, to have all the thumbs on forumhome display about the same height instead of them all being different.
