well i still can see the pic... if i do nothing.. its " qit stealing my bandwidth..p--" and if i right click and get the url i see the pic with the soldier..

I think the only way to really block unwanted picviews is
1. to genrate a random imagename.. different from the thumbnail name.. something you cannot guess...

2. to pull the real pic through a php file .. so the user never ever sees the real filename.. only the pic id

3. and in that php file check the refferer.. and have the phpfile exit to save bandwidth...

Good call there ConqSoft. I just recently renamed my htaccess because people who use certain firewalls couldn't even see the buttons because they were being replaced with my alternate image LOL.

I decided it was easier to just disable it than to explain it over and over and over and over... Now, I will follow your lead and renable it.

Thanks!

Re: Hotlinking and .htaccess

I do the same as Conqsoft, I use a .htaccess file in my ROOT instead. This means that I can still hotlink to images on my forum board from the gallery and they will be displayed there correctly. Even to Guests also seeing as I allow guest to view the gallery on the site in the gallery usergroup permission settings. Otherwise if you hotlink to a large image in your gallery and display it on a forum post, and your group permissions in the gallery are setup to not allow guest to view them. They will see broken images in the forum post. (thumbnails will still work fine though).

My .htaccess file in my root still stops anybody from linking to images in viewing them on other sites away from my domain. Except Google and Alta vista who I have allowed in the .htaccess to lnk to images using the Google.images domine etc. This is so there image search engine will help to get the images listed on google to help boosts the site. Rather than stop google from linking to them.

Safari Problems.

We have a video training website where we host online tutorials to paying subscribers... Although, we are unable to protect our movies from stealing, and outside linking... We use this code in our htaccess file...

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
That code is in the htaccess file in the data directory. It works great on all other browsers, except people who use our forum with Safari. When using Safari our videos appear with question marks, meaning Safari could not find our video.

Any thoughts? Or code changes etc...

Thanks,
Paul

Yes, .htaccess works but if I try to display an image from gallery into my Home page (outside the gallery) I see only the default image.

www.mydomain.com HOME
www.mydomain.com/gallery/ GALLERY

ANy idea to how modify this?

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Thank you
