Show that photos are waiting for approval! I'm sure this is a far-out suggestion for most webmasters but I'll toss it out anyway. I don't want unapproved images hidden. I like to see an indication that they are out there. Status is "waiting for approval". Some kind of blank frame shows instead of the picture. Obviously, controlled by an options switch, since many will want the other behaviour. This is a marketing tactic for adult and pay sites. Brian does fantastic work here, but the product tends to ignore the money/marketing side. Think videos. Think of the time it takes to download, edit, review, and communicate with the user. Think of distributing content evenly over the month... Thanks for listening. |
Re: Show that photos are waiting for approval! I'm not sure if/when that might be an option, but shouldn't be too hard to add with just a little work. If you just searched your files for 'valid = 1', remove that from the WHERE statement in the queries, add the column 'valid' to the SELECT part of the queries, and then alter the construct_image_url() to print out some type of default image for images awaiting approval then that should do the trick. |
Re: Show that photos are waiting for approval! Steward, From a marketing perspective wouldn't that make a visitor more upset than not seeing the picture at all? I mean, what if I visit Monday and see a description for something I'm interested in and then the file in question either sits out there for a long time unapproved or it doesn't get approved at all. If I come back Friday and the image still isn't available I think I'd be upset if I was paying for access only to be teased. |
Re: Show that photos are waiting for approval! Thank you for the prompt and helpful response. Yes, I can do this myself. Just passing along my editorial. Figure if I'm thinking this, so are some other webmasters. Yes, you might be upset, KW802. But you wouldn't be my customer in the first place. Darn right it's teasing. It's also a graphic public statement about our site and how it works (made before the user uploads, not after). Ooooh it is so many subtle statements... Demographics. Sure it doesn't appeal to you. But I'm selling it to thousands of very happy customers. Such a big universe! Cheers. |

And how do you know I wouldn't be your customer? ;) |
