Upload form

1

It would be nice to have the allowed file extensions listed above/below the 'browse files' field. Just like it does with vBulletin, this would help aid users understand which files they can add and which they cant.

2

Now this may already be available, but I sure havent seen it. I would like the option to limit certain usergroups to upload certain file extensions. I know via usergroup permissions the upload filesize can be altered, but it would also be nice to stop them from uploading videos without having to block that certain usergroup from a category.

3

Back to the upload form. When uploading multimedia files it would be nice to have an extra field to add a picture thumbnail. This would cover file extensions such as wmv, mp3, pdf....

4

The oportunity to stream certain files like wmv. Ive not managed to upload files yet, got a file creation problem, so forgive me if this already occurs with multimedia files. But it sure would be nice to give users the ability to either stream the file in the gallery window or to download it to their computer (a on/off feature per media file to leave protected multimedia only accessible via streaming). Obviously the media wouldnt stream automatically, as this would certainly bump up the bandwidth use. Perhaps a thumbnail is displayed and underneath 'stream' and 'save to disk' are displayed (depending which options the admin/uploader allows for that specific file).

The problem with this is that you can enable/disable extensions on a per-category basis, so it would take quite a lot of space to show every extension for each category. A link with a pop-up window showing the allowed extensions in each category might be possible though.

That may be able to be added in a future version.

Currently it will force the user to download any files besides images, but I'm sure this could be a possibility in a future version as well.

Re: Upload form

Glad to see you like the ideas. Ofcourse it was meant to be for later versions, this product is going to grow and grow. I can also imagine a couple of the above ideas being attempted in various mods/hacks!

Re: Upload form

Also another option for thumbnailing multimedia would be to upload a multimedia file via FTP then perhaps upload a image via upload form and have an extra field which points to the multimedia file url when the thumbnail is clicked.

Is this already a possibility with the 'Custom Fields' function in the AdminCP?
