That error points you to your mysql server going down.

Have you tried rerunning the script

Several times. I tried contacting hosting to see if they had some thing in place to stop a script from executing for too long, the guy I got had no idea what I was talking about.

Well lets do a quick search on the internet.

MySQL :: MySQL 3.23, 4.0, 4.1 Reference Manual :: A.5.2.3 Lost connection to MySQL server

These point to server issues with mysql setup

No the import script is what imports the actual images. You might need to contact your web host for a solution since they control the server stuff.

Have you tried to run the import script AFTER having moved all attachments to the file system? because IF you have many very large images in the database they would all be loaded into memory.
Just a thought...

HMM thats a good one Luc did not think about the database images thing yuck. I hate that vb allows you to do that so inefficient.
