subfolders on Server ?

Hello @ all

I Have many subfolders in ...gallery/files

Example:

gallery/files/test1/1
gallery/files/test2/1
gallery/files/test3/1
gallery/files/test4/1
gallery/files/test5/1

In each folder i uploaded many pics with FTP.
Then i integrate the pics in the gallery, but all pics are saved in folder gallery/files/1

Is there an Possibility that the files are saved in the same folder and not in gallery/files/1

Thanks for an answer.

Hi there.. i'm just a normal user and not affiliated with photopost... i look into the forum often.. but its the first time i read that post...
anyway for what you want.. if I understand correctly you just have to switch the safe-mode setting in maintenance in the acp..
but its not wise to do so.. if you can avoid it..

first:
you should not upload any files in the "files" folder!!! the gallery does it automatically... when a user uploads..

For each user it creates a folder by userid..

Example: if you as admin upload a file test1.jpg through upload.php.. it will automatically go to folder files/1/test1.jpg

If I upload a file test1,jpg to your site and my userid is 512 the file should go in: files/5/1/2/test1.jpg

If you upload your images per ftp.. then you should NOT upload them into the files folder but into gallery/users/1
1 being your userid.. (you can set another folder in ACP)

then you go to the upload.php where there is for you (if you enabled it in ACP) a section for mass upload.. if you do that.. the files will be sent to the correct folder..

ONLY if you have to.. (safe mode is enabled on your server) you can send all files just to the files directory without subdirectories.. for that you must switch the safe mode setting in the gallery -> maintenance section of acp.

Then you have ALL files in the files subfolder.. but beware:
Some servers cannot handle more than a couple of thousand files in 1 directory!!!! Thats why you should use the subdirectory system if your server allows it.!!!!
( dont forget.. you have 3 files per picture if you count thumbnail and original - some servers will also get very slow the more files there are in 1 directory)

hope that helps

Luc

Hey Luciano

That helps a little, but i think there is no chance to configure the gallery in a datasystem with my own folders and subfolders.

There is a switch in admin to set safe mode on or off and convert the filesystem but you should only set it to on is safe mode is on otherwise use the normal filesystem.

As far as you ftping images and uploading them they will always appear in your folder as you saw this is how we know where the photos are.

So if I understand what your asking there really is no issue here. Your trying to store files differently then the program is meant to operate. All Users files exist specifically in their own data folder nowhere else. Each user has their own directory.

gallery/files/1

That does not indicate any issue with a filesystem. You are userid 1 which means your files should be installed there. I hope this brings some clairity to your issue. It does not matter if you upload one file or bulkupload 100 files to some custom directory. Once you process the files and they are in your gallery they will reside here

gallery/files/1

no actually not..
the only thing you could do if you have mod_rewrite installed on your server have it display the link to your catid as a folder..
i.e. instead of gallery/showimage.php?i=5&c=2
have : gallery/carpictures/ford_mustang.html

But this would implement you rewrite the core files of the gallery and work with a .htaccess file, which is not the point of this software as for the moment url rewrites are not supported.
