FTP upload not working

I have everything set correctly, but the FTP/mass upload doesn't work. The page just sits there... loading... and loading... and finally just goes to a blank screen.

I have the FTP paths set correctly:

Path Setting: /web/disk1/virtual/sparkynet.com/accounts/megomuseum.com/htdocs/mmgallery/users

URL Setting: http://megomuseum.com/mmgallery/users

I have both the users directory and the 1 directory chmodded to 777. The usergroup option "Can upload images directly from server" is set to yes.

So what's wrong?

Update - I deleted all the files from /users/1/ and re-uploaded just one image, and it worked. So apparently I can upload one image at a time via the FTP upload. Lovely.

Just tried it again and now it loads and loads forever and won't even let me upload another single fine.

How large are the images ?
What size are you reducing the images to ?
What is your PHP Memory Limit ?

I myself import 1000's via FTP.
