Moving folder help

Ok guys, I have my gallery folder in --> forum/gallery
Now, I want to change the folder to the root --> /gallery

Can you please tell what the steps I have to do first?
I mean, I dont want to loose the thumbs and the original images, I tryed once and I lost the original images doing that.

AdminCP => vBGallery -> Modify Settings
- Change your Title, URL's, & Paths. to reflect the new locations.

FTP / File Manager and move the folder location.
