[Suggest] add avatar thumb (smaller avatar) to comments...

since vb 3.7x there is a new avatar added, a thumbnail avatar.. it is called in profile and blog.. (that avatar is a maximum of 60px wide)

I would adapt the avatars in image replies (comments) to vbulletin standard.. with dummy avatar like the fix in: Problem with custom Avatars under 3.8... kind of fix

but then add for admin the ability to choose if the postbit displays the normal avatar OR the thumb avatar.. (makes the postbit lighter. We only are talking comments and not main posts as in forum)
How to call the thumb avatar?
either use the vbulletin built in function:
function fetch_avatar_from_userinfo(
found in includes/functions_user.php (in vb 3.8 and maybe 3.7)

or take the code from there and adapt it to showimage.php..

Luc

PS to see the difference between normal avatars and thumbavatars, upload a custom avatar to filesystem. then go to directory forums/customavatars. there you will find the normal avatar. goto forums/customavatars/thumbs. there you find the thumbavatar. (both are also in database, but are harder to view)

Yes it is as simple as the thumbs directory thing although one thing to note though where we show avatars on the actual showimage I would suspect we still want to keep inline with how vb displays things they use the actual avatar on images and comments and we would do the same. I do not really see the correlation your trying to make as in these are comments not main posts in a forum. If a forum post has the main avatar and then a gallery comment should as well.

If we really want to be tightly integrated then we need to consider where this is actually shown the only place that is the vb profile page. I do beleive when Michael releases a beta we are going to try and clear up some of the confusion with vb album feature and vbgallery.

Sorry maybe i formulated wrong.. i meant at first "get the avatars working" and "while your at it" why not give admin the possiblility to choose size of avatar.. (but i agree that is secondary)

Because i dont like the postbit.. i myself am preparing a site where
1. postbit for image comments is largely inspired of blog comments (or album comments)
2. the hardest was to really disable the all bb code except the basics, like bold, italic, smileys.. etc..
for me, the album comments, blog comments and vbgallery comments should only have the basics so people dont post php code [p hp][/ph p] or other stuff in comments..

here a screenshot of my postbit.. (some little toys on the right hand also..) i'm going online with that version end of feb...

Well I like your ideas. It could definately be something to look at but I do know in alot of our support threads most vb integrated clients want our comments postbit to look exactly like vbulletins. vbGallery is close and Pro has its own format and over the years most comments revolve around if we integrate with vb our template structure should look like theirs which is why we try to emulate as much as possible the same look and feel for at least vb customers. Our focus as Scott has said right now is getting vbGallery to integrate even way deeper than it does now.

Well i would suggest that there would be a switch in ACP...
A* use postbit..
B* use postbit legacy
C* use album comment postbit

...

And.. as we are in suggestions..
it would be nice to have the same options for postings as albums and blog have (being able to switch every single bbcode on and off)
