for registration confirmation. If a gmail address is used, the confirmation email can be found in the spam box. If yahoo or aol is used -- it never even makes it that far. If a pop3 is use -- it arrives. If a Pop3 forwards to gmail -- it never makes it.
I've tried both php and SMTP for sending email. I've changed the IP address to one not used if over five years in case there was a blacklist issue. None of that has helped.
When my admin login tries to contact my throw down registered user on an ad -- I get the error message Script not called correctly -- and logged out.
We simply use php or smtp to send an email to the address it needs to go. There is no misconfiguration on our end that I see. Essentially you supply the to and from email addresses and subject letter and an email is sent.
If something ends up in a gmail spam box or does not arrive to aol or yahoo then you need to investigate why those email providers have a problem. I would assume its a blacklist issue personally but that kind of stuff is definately outside the control of a script that is the email provider issue. I set classifieds emails to my gmail address all the time.
Your last issue I can look but I need to know what you mean. Contact your throw down user? There is a contact link on an ad that simply uses contact.php and I am not seeing an issue there so I need specifics to your situation.
I personally have two user logins -- both with ads. The throwdown user for testing. If one user clicks the Contact Seller in the ad -- and types a message and enters the Captcha - the next screen says Script not called correctly and I'm logged out.
I tried this on multiple sellers -- and it happens with them all
OK that worked, at least with it not bombing -- however I and all of my friends I've asked to test this for me don't get any mail -- even in our spam box. We do get mail sent by Vbulletin. I'm using php and now using the -f option.
The part that puzzles me is that my forums are sending email in the same fashion, and I'm using a Word Press contact form http://www.cash-or-barter.com/contact-cob/ that sends email -- but any email generated from the Classifieds at best goes to the spam box and more often (Yahoo and AOL) won't even get delivered.
I'll look through the templates of text and see if there's something in there that appears to be triggering spam filters to consider spam.
If the registration and contact seller are separate -- then I might have two problems:
On the email confirmation portion -- what was happening from limited (five friends and myself) testing was
if you had a POP3 email address that you didn't forward to another address-- you appear to get the email in your in box
if you had a gmail address -- it wound up in the Spam box
if you had a pop3 that redirects to a gmail address you didn't get at all
if you have a Yahoo you didn't get at all
on the Contact Seller -- I don't get at my gmail or my POP3 addresses
I've tried php with and without -f and SMTP with three different domains
I've checked to see if I'm black listed -- and I'm not and since it is my server and I don't spam -- I shouldn't be
I've changed the IP address of the site from shared to its own -- and that didn't help
with regards to your last reply -- it kinda flew over my head a little. Are suggesting a change or pointing out something?
I can not comment on the reliability of gmail or yahoo aol etc on blacklisting or other issues you have recieving things as that sounds like issues on that end of things if some users get the email or not. Our system sends an email it does not matter the email client the command is the same its a php mail statement sending it through php or smtp.
I sent myself yet another test from the contact us script and checked my gmail account and the mail was there in an instant.
This is why I was asking if you where receiving any email from your classifieds like if you receive no email nowhere then you can check to see if your host has php mail locked down at which point you could try smtp as long as your host has that available. If you receive some mail then that means the mailer is working fine as we are sending mail.
As too specific reasons why some people do not get email I can only suspect black lists etc as the reason they are not getting there email is on the receive side not send.
