I received an alert recently from Google Webmaster Tools that Google found a high number of 404 not found errors on my site, and 99% of them relate to PhotoPost.
Here are some details of the problem, I'm not sure where to look to track this down.
I have SEO URLs enabled. Google has indexed some non-SEO URLs, specifically the showgallery.php URLs such as this one -- - Ford Flex Photos
Now, hover over the thumbnails on that page and you'll see the URLs all have an extra slash in them like this: example.com/photos//p1587-example.html
What could be causing the extra slash?
What I'm going to do is tell Google to not index any showgallery.php URLs (in robots.txt) to help remove it from the index but I'm curious as to why the extra slash is there, I'd like to get rid of the "bad" URLs. Perhaps there is a way in robots.txt to also tell it not to index any double-slash URLs, I'll have to look into that.
This is only a problem because they keep e-mailing me about these errors and there are 6,000 errors showing up as a result of this. Oddly enough, if you as a regular person browse the site you see all the correct SEO URLs and have no errors. So the impact is not that great to regular folk.
For what it's worth, I can duplicate the issue at other installations as well.... http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/show...at=all&page=12
