Talking photopost too expensive to run?

Hi..

That was the suggestion which came to mind when i received an email from my host about my installation of photopost causing their server (I'm on semi-dedicated) to become unstable, then asking me to move up to a more expensive hosting service.

I'm not sure if this was an attack of some kind but my host tells me of running 'parallel scripts', I'll include their email below, i don't know what to tell them as this is out of the blue, they have disabled my gallery directory as a precaution, is there anything obvious to you? see below...

---
Your account "site.com" hosted on the SDX server site.nocdirect.com is running various CPU intensive php scripts and mysql queries which are putting very high load on the server and due to which server is going unresponsive.

Please have a look at the follow details about your php scripts running in parallel.

Thanks for the help.

I really am not sure what your host log is trying to show. Your definately going to have multiple processes of a script running on a server simply because if you have 100 people viewing 100 different photos at the same time there are going to be multiple processes going on. There is nothing wrong with that.

Photopost runs on bare bones sites to high end servers. You would definately need to look at where your load is being generated. You might also want to read the performance thread in the DOCUMENATION and FAQ forums on things you might want to turn off to avoid some overhead. If you also run a NIX server there is a load balance feature in global admin options you can set to a number between 0 and 10 usually about 6 or 7 and it will shut your photopost down to new visitors until the load drops telling them the site is too busy now.

It is all about balancing features with your server. If your load is coming from lots of people viewing the site which ups the load with more processes all you can do is upgrade hosting to help.

Yeah I am not a webhost so their logs do not do me too much good. I would suggest you turn off some of the more higher intensive features meantioned in the performance thread and see if that helps.

Is it possible that this could happen when some users are trying to pull out all the photos by using some tools?

I am not sure how you could pull all photos as showphoto only shows one photo.

Like I said read the performance faq. There are things in there you can turn off like the next previous images to say for instance.
