Gallery limits?

Hi all,

Being a new admin, I'm enjoying looking at other forums and galleries and getting ideas. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have a question for gallery admins:

What types of limits do you have for your users? What total space do you allow? What file size limit do you have?

I'm on another forum and the admins there have set their limits to:

4 MB total space allowed
125kb file size limit.

So I thought that seemed reasonable for mine... but after pulling out my trusty calculator, I see that's only about 32 images!

So I'm coming to all of you to ask your opinions...what do you have set up?

Thanks for any advice!
Ted

Well see here is the issue.

You need to determine what your overall diskspace limitation are.

You can always move hosting upgrade to more space etc.

Lets look at it this way. Say you have 10GB hosting. You leave 1GB for programs. If you assign 4mb that means you can have max 2000 users with that limit on your site uploading images.

So really the limits you apply depend on your hosting and how big your site is. You can allow bigger limits when you start out but you may need to lower those as your site grows.

Hi Chuck,

As always, I appreciate your input on these things.

My hosting is 150 GB with 1,500 GB transfer (not sure if the transfer matters).

With that information, what would be reasonable parameters?

Again, I know it's all relative, but I don't want to short-change my users nor do I want to tax my resources.

(Then again, perhaps I just don't have the concept down on disk space yet! LOL)

Again, thanks for your input!

Well based on my prior post with 150GB you would be able to have 30000 users with 4mb each

your probally safe allowing say 250kb filesize and 10MB limits
