Store/Serve Data (Photos) on Separate Server?

Would it be possible to store the data files (photos) on a server other than where PhotoPost is installed/running? Has anybody done this? Custom job?

The problem would be transferring files to a different server - there isn't a way to say "upload this file to this server, but save it on that server" - at least not without some kind of remote disk mounting setup.
