Server Move

Hello,

I had a painful time the last time I had to do a server move in regard to getting reviewpost working again. If I encounter similar issues this time, is it possible to purchase the upgrade installation package and have support do the upgrade (I think I'm at 6.0 and it looks like there is a 6.01) and make any needed changes to the installation for the new server such as directories and such?

If your moving servers you would purchase the install service not upgrade service.

How to Move Servers and/or Change Directories

There are the age old how to move servers tutorial posted which you can follow if you do it yourself.

Let me know how it goes. I forgot to meantion this last night but the easiest thing for most people if you move servers and move the database and files over just reset file permissions as noted in the install directions on our site and run the install script. You install into the same database tables you will get duplicate errors that content stuff exists but that is easiest for most people to update all paths etc as the install script does it for you. That might help you not have as much of an issue as you did last time.

Still waiting to see how this plays out. It would be a WHM/Cpanel migration, so it might not have the issues I had last time where they had to import files manually do to different control panels. Current host might also be able to upgrade hardware which may make it a non-issue. No prob on the full install, will purchase if I run into problems support can't handle. Thanks!

well the migration of files etc is one aspect but you still need to update the config files and settings table in the database with changes path info etc.

Yeah, so, it seems to have worked without a hitch so far, no updates necessary as all filepaths seem to have been retained with WHM migration. Will report back after I get my other site stable.

Just a note just released 6.02 with lots more updated styles so if your running a standalone might want to check it out. Plus whatever changes where in 6.01 any issues reported since 6.0 would be fixed in the later version just upload files noted in both announcements.

Thanks- just getting around to this again now. Is 6.02 a simple file upload/replace for vB3.8.7? Or do any scripts need to be run since the version 6 you installed for me?

Thanks!

From 6.0 to 6.02 it is just files and all the documentation in the downloaded code has the information you wish.

So far so good. It crashed it initially, until I realized that the config files aren't uploaded as bak or new or something and overwrote my old ones:-(

Fortunately, I had recent backups and replaced config-inc and config-intr.php with previous versions and it now seems to be working at first order.

Are there any other files that might have had custom or setup information like the config files that I should restore from backups?

yes always a good thing to read the documentation. it states specifically do not upload the config files. There really are no other files to worry about unless you use header or footer files on a standalone you might have modified.

For those that find this thread here is the documentation right from the downloaded code.

Quote:
IMPORTANT - DO NOT SKIP

. Backup your database before doing this upgrade.
. Ensure you upload all the directories which have files that need to be uploaded to the main PhotoPost ReviewPost directory.

UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS

0) Download and unzip the latest build from the Members Area.

1) Upload all files - except config-inc.php, config-int.php unless you modified them from the ZIP file - to
your server. You do not need install.php for an upgrade. You also do not need to upload header.htm or footer.htm if you modified those as well.

3) Run http://www.yoursite.com/reviewpost/install/upgrade.php and depending on your version, run any necessary upgrades.

4) When done with upgrades, remove the upgrade.php file.

5. For SEO rename the HTACCESS file to .htaccess

6) You are done!

IMPORTANT - FOR VBULLETIN 4 ONLY. New plugins included in download.

In the install directory set permissions on the file product_class.xml, source-vb4.xml and source-vb42.xml files to 777

2. Go to your photopost admin panel and hit the option to generate vbulletin plugin xml. That file will download to your computer.

3. Go into your vbulletin admin panel ( http://www.yoursite.com/reviews/adm-index.php ) and under plugins & products select the option to manage products. You can then use the add/import product option
and upload the xml file you downloaded to your computer called product_class.xml file. Once that is done your forum will show gallery content.

4. Thats it your done!!

Please read the CHANGELOG.TXT FILE so you know what to expect from version upgrades.
