Login getting dropped

I have a new installation of ReviewPost at Zeiss User Forums. For my vBulletin forums, I have cookies set to "/" with a prefix of "bb". I think I set everything up correctly in Step 4 of the ReviewPost installation. I read the other thread about cookie issues with PhotoPost.

If I completely clear my browser cache and cookies and then log into my vBulletin board, all is well. Then I go to my ReviewPost page, and I stay logged in. However, when I go back to my vBulletin forum, I'm not logged in any more. Once I log in again on the forums page, I seem to stay logged on both pages.

Other times I try to log in on my ReviewPost page, and it gives me the "Thanks for logging in" message without logging me in. On those occasions, repeated tried give that same result.

Is there any way that you can look at my page and tell me what I have done wrong?

Thanks,
Amin

This should assist you if login is getting dropped that sounds like cookie issue.

Hi Chuck, I went through the thread you're referencing prior to starting this one, but on second try it seems that changing my cookie domain from blank to .ziforum.com seems to have worked. That's odd, because I thought I had left it on blank in step 4. Either way, thanks!

Yes always setting your domains to .domain is the way to go. Blank only causes a cookie to be written on one domain name say www.domain.com what happens when the user clicks a link and goes to domain.com they are logged out. Thats because those are two different domain names

Hi Chuck, members are having cookie problems on our site and I'm not sure why. Cookies are set at .picturepenzance.co.uk
forum cookies to bb (as its Vbulletin3)
and Photopost cookies path to /
But when members move from forum to gallery they are logged out... it has to be cookies.
Any help would be appriciated.:)

Is your vb license correct in the config settings?

Halfhidden September 27th, 2009 09:11 AM

Hi Chuck..... yes the license is correct.
I'm not entirely sure if this problem is with VB3 or Photopost

Chuck S September 27th, 2009 12:32 PM

Well its like this as long as the license number is correct not CUSTOMER NUMBER and your cookies are set like this in both programs then logins should not be dropped

cookie path /

cookie prefix bb

cookie domain .picturepenzance.co.uk

You can place a test login here

Hmm... This is odd. That's how I've set both up. Looking at this a little closer I can see that users aren't getting logged out but aren't getting fully logged in.
Let me explain:
If a guest logs in through the gallery VB accepts the login and the welcom screen is shown. The user is redirected to the gallery bu no user details are showm. The top menu is also as if the user wasn't logged in. A VB notice (that is scheduled only to show to guests) is still viible...... But the gallery is useable... as in I can see the pictures (guests cannot) but if I try to open a picture to large size I get this message:
You must be a registered user to view images!

To register click on the REGISTER button in the menu above.

If I navigate back to VB I'm logged in and my avatar shows up. Navigate back to gallery same problem as above.
I'm assuming that in one of the php settings I'm missing an "/" or I have one at the end of a directory call and shouldn't

Test: The bin pirate
Password: test

I dont seem to have any issues. I am logged in both in the gallery and forum fine

Have you suggested to users to clear there browser cookies?

Halfhidden September 27th, 2009 01:38 PM

I have.... but I'll send out an email to everyone explaining how this is done on various platforms (ie,ff and so on) in case they don't know and haven't actually done this..... (now that would be why!)
Personally I'm not getting problems either.
Thanks Chuck.:D
