Correct permissions for .htm files I am unable to update the header.htm and footer.htm files using the Admin < Edit Header and Admin < Edit Footer tools. The error message says, "Correct the permissions or set the file path in the Admin Global Options." Those files are currently set with permissions of 644. What should they be set to? Thank you |
Correct permissions to make them writable would be 666 permissions and you should be able to write to them? |
They work now even though they are still at 644, I had the URL instead of the server path in the global options. Sorry. |
Not a problem but if you try editing them from admin they will not let you edit them as they need to be 666 |
Sorry - I'm a little confused as to why they need to be be 666 - that gives write access to anyone, right? That seems dangerous to me - someone could come along and add something to the header that I don't want. |
If they can break into your site sure but obviously they dont have your signins do they ;) If you dont want to write or be able to change your files through the ADMIN then dont set them to writable. |
Oddly, I am able to edit both header.htm and footer.htm using the Admin tools, even though the files are still set to 644. Editing these files with the Admin interface is working for me, the files are being updated so I guess I'll just leave them at that. Nobody has the general password for my site except me (and someone at the hosting company could find it out of course) so I'm not worried about anyone breaking in. By the way, I wondered what the permissions on the main reviewpost directory itself should be? Currently mine is set to 755. Thanks |
normal directories are suppose to 755 thats fine ;) |
