No Thumbnails or oversized images working.

Now I just installed Review.

The issues I'm having are probably related, but I'm not sure.

The first issue I'm having is when I try to upload a file (screenshot) it gives me this error:

"Sorry, this image type () is not supported yet. "

Now the file is a .jpg and is like 1280x885 in size. I told the site to resize it.

The kicker is, if I shrink the picture down to something like 400x200, it will resize it ok, but at the big resolution, it gives the above error. It's weird.

The second issue I have, is when I do get a picture uploaded, the site isn't creating a thumbnail. When I edit the review, and tell it to rebuild it, it still doesn't.

Is there a setting that maybe I'm missing? I have it set to create them, and it says it generated them. Yet the thumbnail folder is empty, and it's 777.

Is there some minor thing I'm missing?

There's one I tried..

Here's a test user account..

login/pass: test/test

It's just a regular account, so I don't mind posting it in the open.

thanks Chuck

I dont see any errors but make sure your thumbnail threshold is set to say maybe 100 and the thumbs directories under each data directory are 777

The image I tried to upload was a decent size..

I checked and the thumb's folder is 777, and there are no (zero) folders inside of it.

I also checked and the thumbnail threshold is 100..

It is acting crazy.. I mean, the smaller picture did resize down..

On your upload, it didn't create the thumbnail. If I'm seeing the /data/thumbs at 777, what else could it possibly be? Any ideas??

I seem to remember one or two hosts who incorrectly set permissions on the thumbnails to like 600 so they are unviewable. If you view your thumbs and thats the permissions those files have then this is an issue your host needs to fix.

Chuck, thanks for the help yo are giving me!!!

I have checked all the "thumbs" folders. I'm not 100% sure which folder to check, so I checked them all.

For example:
http://www.sitexperience.com/showpro...4/limit/recent

Where should I look for the thumbs folder, for that review?

The other wierd part, on the same server, I run DaBearz.com, which runs photopost and vbgallery, and they work just fine.

If you could help me find which thumbs folder I should specifically look for permissions on in the "data" folder, I would appreciate it.

again, thanks for the help.

You need to check the thumbnail files directly and see what the images are set to permissions wise. This sounds familiar to a permissions error I have seen on one or two hosts

Your data directory and all their subdirectories at every level should be set to 777 permissions.

Chuck, I'm talking with my host.

They aren't exactly sure what folders permissions you are referring to. the wierd part is vbulletin is creating thumbnails just fine on the same site.

I found where they seem to be created (thumbs). They are "666". Is that a problem?

Now when I do submit an image with the review, and that image is smaller than the thumbnail size, it displays it. However if the image is bigger, that's when it does not.

even thought the thumbnail is being created, I still can't get the image up actually upload. Meaning, when the image is big like I stated in my first post, I get the not supported message.

ok, I think I figured out what happened..

For some reason when I created the categories, they were created, but two folders (thumbs, and large) weren't created in the sub folders of each category. I'm not sure why. I think I had a permission wrong from the start. So now that I rechecked them, and set the permissions correctly, the sub folders STILL weren't created. They are only attempted to be created upon category creation. So the error I received was basically saying "can't write to the folder". So for every sub folder, I manually created the missing folders, and chmod'd them to 777. Now everything is working.

Yep that is good to know basically why I kept saying to check the permissions etc on the data directory

The toughest part about my issue.. Once you said check permissions, I did, and changed them, but my cats were already created. So every folder wasn't created, and I didn't know that. I didn't realize there were supposed to be two sub folders to each cat..

Either way, I'm happy now. any my site is launched. I think I'll put this site up as a site review..
