GD does not give uniform square thumb?

We are having difficulty with our server with IMAGEMAGICK, so we switched to GD temporarily. While the resizing itself worked, but GD does not generated the Uniform Square thumbnails.

1.
Is there anything we can do to make GGD generate Uniform Square thumbnails?

2.
When we select to use ImageMagic, and uploading does not generate any thumbnails at all, what does it mean? Does it mean path to MOGRIFY is wrong or anything else is wrong with Imagemagic?

3.
Will suPHP cause problem with image uploading?

Many thanks for your help!

has anything changed on the server since uploading worked with imagemagick? has the server been updated?

As uniform feature notes it is only a imagemagick thing you can not do it with GD2.

If you can not get a functioning imagemagick install then you must be GD2 and use normal thumbnails.

Our software has no control over the server image processors so you need to use which ever one works.

You can try to recompile Imagemagick on the server if you have root access otherwise you need to ask your host to make imagemagick work.

Chuck,
Thanks for confirming that GD does not support uniform square thumbnail. We will stick with Imagemagick as we love the clean square thumbnails.

Imagemagick is installed. So I am trying to figure out if it is installed, and resizing itself is not working, is it because the path to MOGRIFY incorrect that caused this, or something else about Imagemagic that we need to check specifically before we recompile the imagemagick.

So suPHP is not an issue?

The only thing we did was a server admin performed some server optimization and security enhancement. This is a brand new server that we switched to around April 9th.

Thanks for your help.

I can not tell you what is going on the server which is why I asked what has changed. we know uploading worked what a month to month and half ago. Therefore if you switched servers this is an issue with the new server.

GD2 works so we know there is nothing about the settings that are an issue otherwise GD2 would not work.

You can try recompiling imagemagick on the server that is the only advise I can give.

Okay, server admin forced a re-install of imagemagick, and it still did not fix the problem. Can I ask some specific questions?

1. MOGRIFY - Is this controls the resizing action? Reason I am asking is to make sure we have the correct path.

2. If MOGRIFY is not controling resizing action, what is actually controlling the resize?

3. suPHP is not a concern, right?

Again thanks so much!

mogrify is imagemagick and it is what resizes images same as GD2 resizes images. Images are resized to the dimensions you specify in admin upload options.

I can not say anything about suPHP but I know people run it and our software.

You do not say you get any errors and if paths where wrong you would. I would suspect here that whatever so called security measures you say where done is preventing imagemagick from actually working.

Like your host says imagemagick was reinstalled but did they actually verify it was functional.

Thank you Chuck. That is very helpful for me to better understand the issue. Now I am ready to bug my server admin. Get the imagemagick working.

Yep not a problem glad to help.

it is the only thing that is explains your issue. Imagemagick is a server level program and given that you get no error it just doesnt resize anything we know your server is preventing imagemagick from working which is why i asked did they even test it.

The reason GD2 works is because it is part of PHP and you know PHP is working
