Extra Fields in Category - OPTIONAL?

I added a few "Extra field" in category. And when people upload product, these extra fields become required, and can't be left blank. It brings up a pop up window if not filled in.

Could you please let me know how to make these extra field OPTIONAL and allow users to leave them blank?

You would edit the bulkupload template and remove the checkform code for any of the extra1 thru extra6 fields in the checkform java.

If you open your uploadproduct template you will see what you want to remove. they are if clauses
