Question Upgrading from 4.12

We're getting ready to upgrade 4.12 to the latest version. Lots of preparation needed, as we modified the way the reviews look and have our adsense ads integrated. I assume we're gonna lose those changes. In addition, though, I have these questions:

IMPORTANT - DO NOT SKIP

. Backup your database before doing this upgrade.

Q: How do we do this?

1) Check for new config-inc.php variables, some recent additions are:

Note the config-int.php file has been renamed to config-intr.php to ensure compatibility with vb3 for users
whom own multiple products of ours to avoid conflicts with variables

$vblicense is for VB3 users and is required to encrypt your passwords if you are not using vB3Enhanced
mode. Without it you will not be able to login to VB3.

Do we need to worry about this from 4.12?

3) Run upgrade.php and depending on your version, run any necessary upgrades.

Can we just do an upgrade directly from 4.12, or do we need to do interim upgrades?

Take note the upgrade instructions are all inclusive meaning there are some things in there that may apply to older installs. Also there are things like vblicense which most people if they installed correctly with vb in the first place its just a note. People on way older installs might be missing certain things in there configs which is why there are notes there. To backup you can use phpmyadmin right in your cpanel webpanel or plesk ensim whatever your host gives you.

For you to upgrade what is important is this

1. backup your database ( that is something you should be doing daily weekly montly unless you want to lose your site )

AutoMySQLBackup | Download AutoMySQLBackup software for free at SourceForge.net

I use this which is simply a server cron task backup and compresses all databases into tar zipped files. You can look at that later use phpmyadmin as noted in my reply for right now.

2. upload all the reviewpost files except the 2 config files

3. run the upload script and select the 4.1 through to 5.1 upgrades

Thanks. We're on a dedicated server and the whole thing is backed up twice every day and throughout the day as well.

I'm looking in cpanel. I don't see a database devoted to reviews. Refresh my memory, would you? Which database does Reviews use?

We use whichever database you specified when you installed it. You can check your reviewpost config-inc.php file to see what the answer to your question is.
