Allow Chinese Text to be displayed

Hi PP support,

i'm starting a chinese forum based on VB4.0.1 and i'v set it up to use utf-8 encoding.

I did a test with my photopost setup and i realised it doesn't show chinese characters. how may i configure photopost to work with chinese language?

well do you have a link? Your posting in the wrong forum I think but you might need to actually create a chinese language file and load the proper charset to display chinese.

Hi Chuck,

here's the links

Vbulletin forum: http://www.asiaphoto.org
Photopost: http://photo.asiaphoto.org

i'v set up two useraccounts for testing:

(1) username: 摄影北京 & password: testing
(2) username: test & password: testing

pls give it a try logging in at the forum,
with (1) first
then as you go to http://photo.asiaphoto.org
you will notice that you are not logged in.

and if you try logging in with (1), you can never log in

however, if you use (2)
you can log in at the forum,
and stay logged in when you go to http://photo.asiaphoto.org

it seems like the member interface doesn't work with chinese.

also, if i were to use (2) to post any chinese text or characters, they will come up as gibberish text instead of the right chinese text.

I will check things out and see if I can give any pointers but there is gonna be a LIMIT to what I can do since I dont work with chinese or know much about it.

Your username has nothing to do with not being logged in

You need to ensure your creating cookies and in the proper format.

cookie path /

cookie prefix bb

cookie domain .asiaphoto.org

That should help.

Hi Chuck,

yes, my photopost database tables are not UTF-8, but the vbulletin forums are set in UTF-8.

is it too late now to change photopost database to utf-8 ?

or do i have to do a fresh re-install of PhotoPost with utf-8 database formatting?

btw, the asiaphoto.org sites are test forums. i'v set them up to test Photopost integration compatibility with (chinese versions) of Vbulletin VB4.0.1 and the older 3.8.4

it seems like VB4.0.1 is not really ready yet to support Chinese language. it's quite frustrating.

i may have to contend with developing my forum with 3.8.4 and upgrade to VB4.0.1 when the support is ready.

Yes well supporting chinese takes a little understanding and work but yes if you want a change of Photopost supporting chinese your default mysql table format has to be utf-8 otherwise your not going to get things to display properly with latin encoding in the database

You can try issuing queries against all the table to change encoding to utf8 or start over make sure your mysql default support is utf8 so any databases created in it use that.

Now this will not fix any old data but this should convert a table for instance to utf-8 without starting over and you need to do this for every single photopost table

ALTER TABLE pp_admingroups CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8;
