confused with product types and catagories I am planning a resturant review site, and I know reviewpost was designed for "products" and I see I have to do some tweaking to make it work, but I am confused over Product Types and Catagories Correct me if I am wrong, but a Single Product type links to a single Catagories, but a Catagories can have more then one product type? But you can only have custom fields in the catagories, not the produt types? This seems backwards to me. The layout I thought of: Location (I guess this wold be product type, since it is the first question) Name or Resturant (I guess this would be catagory) But if I do this way, once I click on New York, I then have to choose a catagories or name of resturant which wouldn't exist yet! All I want to be able to do is enter many different resturants, and have them organized by city/state Am I missing something? Is there a way to disable the whole "Product Type" Function? Where I can just create my locations as catagories? Duane |
Categories are assigned to one product type as thats just an optional template type products versus like customer service reviews custom fields are per category I think your overthinking the whole product type thing. Its a template system where as allows users to create different templates thats all. |
OK, so how do I get the layout that I want? Would my location say for example "New York" be a product type? or would that be a catagory? Is there a way to remove product types? So I can just have my users select a location (which would be a catagory) and then they can make reviews Why is there this 3 step process? isn't it easier and more simple for the users to simply select the catagory they want and then post the review? Do not think about product types. Your just wrapping your head around the wrong thought process there. You should not have to touch product types ever unless you create a new template type as described here http://www.photopost.com/forum/revie...eviewpost.html Everything you want is a category. Users select a category to upload a product to and then users can review that product. Example Create Category New York. Then create sub categories under New York for areas etc. Users select to upload a product to review to a specific category thats it. Other users comes along and review the product. |
