Where are upgrade instructions?

I tried upgrading from 3.3 to 4.03, and for some reason it wouldn't work: some message about not connecting to the database. Where are the detailed upgrade instructions?

The upgrade instructions are in the documentations forum. You do not want to overwrite your config files so maybe thats why you got a no connect message.
