Login / cookies...

Hi Chuck..

I run the reviewpost on a members site.

I also use the software amember.com, it uses a plugin for VB to manage members etc.

I seem to have a problem though when people log in. When a user logs in, if they naviagte straight to the reviewpost it doesn't show any categories. If a user navigates to the forum and then back to the reviewpost the categories display.

I trust this is an issue comewhere with the cookies but unsure where to start to try to sort this out so members can log in and view these pages straight away.

I'm wondering if you have come accross this problem before..

thanks
Lee

You might want to contact amember as your issue would probally have to do with that software as I dont know how it interacts with vb but you do need to make sure your logged in properly to assign permissions which means cookies so if the user goes to vb and then to reviewpost they are logged in so you need to make sure amember makes the proper vb cookies for login.

Thanks Chuck,

I'll speak to amember and find out about the cookies but the site logs into VB without any problems straight away so I don't think theres a problem setting the vb cookie.
I have to click onto VB before I can then access the reviewpost.

If the proper vb cookies are made and your cookies are properly integrated then you should not have a problem so ensure your cookies are set the same between both vb and photopost.

Chuck,

I've asked amember but they suspect it may be because I'v installed some plugins to VB.

How do I check the cookies between VB and RP are the same?

thanks
Lee

In vb and photopost in the admin of both areas cookie settings. make sure this is hoiw things are set.

cookie path /

cookie prefix bb

cookie domain .domain.com replace with your domain name with a period in front important if you want cookies to be read throughout the site. Remember amember just create the same cookie and if it does not then thats a bug in amember.

Chuck

They appear to be the same.

I have another way to protect the review directory via amember. I'm going to do it this way. What I need to know is can I remove the integration with VB so it doesn't use them groups for permissions or is it easier to set unregistered users then to be able to post reviews in the settings?

So, I'd like to run reviewpost not integrated with VB to test the config and then be able to switch back if I have problems.

thanks
Lee

You cant switch back and forth at will you either integrate them or not as users are registered in each and permissions are set based on the usergroup permissions. If you wish unregistered users to be able to post reviews them simply set guests to be able to post reviews in edit usergroup permissions in admin.
