Templates- what each does

I would like to edit several templates but I am not sure which ones do what. I know that you edit them under Edit Templates in the admin section but I don't know which ones do what. Is there a list that can show me were each template shows on each page or at least the main page.

Please elaborate on your question? what each one does? Each script uses specific templates and if you browse the php files you can search for tmpl to see which templates each one uses. Most scripts use templates named after the scripts themselves.
