Adding another stat to the statspal?

I have a need for adding the current total number of products and reviews for a particular category (which also has subcategories) to my statspal. The catch is that I want the number to reflect all the products/reviews associated with that categories and the products of its children to reflected in the number that is calculated.

I'm familiar with build mysql queries but not with the caching mechanism that ReviewPost uses for categories. Is there a means of extracting this information and processing the information to calculate the numbers I need to insert into the statspal? If I can figure out how to calculate them I'm familiar with how to modify the templates to display this information dynamically.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Mark

well if your familar with queries you will be fine. Sorry we can not assist with code modification questions. Your free to post on the MOD CORNER hacking questions but I will respond and state you can edit the get_statscache in pp-inc.php. That is merely a query.

Chuck,

Thanks for the pointer. Is there anywhere in the code where the number of products/reviews calculated for a particular category. I know that in building the category cache this happens though I've been enable to determine how its done to making my own function and calculating the number under that category and any subcategories.

I'll post over in the mods area as well though looking at the low activity level doesn't give me confidence that anyone will respond.

Regardless, thanks for the initial pointer.

well that stats have nothing to do with individual photos and comments per category. Those are shown on your cats display on the index only. So yes you would make your own code for that.

I do not control who posts or does not post in the forums outside our support forums so yes you may post at your own descretion and whether you get a response or not depends on users interests in your ideas.
