One User Review Max Per Product

I just upgraded to the latest version of ReviewPost and now see that users are able to post more than one review per product. I'd rather my users only be able to post one review per product. This is the way it was before I upgraded. Any idea how I can change that back?

Thanks,
Carolyn

I've noticed that as well. I did a search, but only found stuff that referred to old code and older versions.

Well during the 3.2 beta this was one of the restrictions users wanted removed from the software. However its very easy get this restriction back. In reviews.php

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
'
change to say

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

Should make it an ACP option.

The problem I have with allowing multiple reviews is that people, once they have reviewed an item, will "respond" to another users review or use the reviews system to ask a question, and will not actually review the product, thus skewing the average rating.

How about take posts with no ratings out of the equation?

If you don't factor in posts without a rating, it wouldn't skew it at all. This gets around the problem and probably leads to a better rating system overall. IMHO

Exactly many customers balked at only being able to do one review and thus this was changed.

Chuck:

I agree with PBChannel, and as we've suggested before we'd like to see an ACP Option as well.

I'm sure that there are many sites that wanted to do more than one review but likewise I think there are many that were perfectly happy with the one per product. You likely wouldn't have heard from those users since they were perfectly fine with the way it was. :-)

We're all for more functionality in the program but suggest that that always be in the context of giving sites the option to set the change to what works best for them (particularly when an option that was one way changes to a different default in a subsequent version.).

Chuck, did this ever get added into the ACP? I can't find it.

Is it possible to make it so, once they reviewed the product, their second reply would be without the ratings?

So your first post would allow you to rate the product. When you reply later one, it allows you to, but doesn't allow you to rate the product. Maybe remove the "rating" fields, and just make it a reply..

This something that is hard, or you would be interested? This may give what you mentioned the beta testers wanted.

The biggest problem with multiple ratings, you can get one member who rates the site 50 times. But the only way to stop this, is by allowing only one review. Doing this removes the ability to reply, to "chat" with others.
