| RP 3.3: Show the text box for writing comments also for non-registerd users
Hi
RP 3.3: Show the text box for writing comments also for non-registerd users
If a new product is uploaded and no comment is amde yet, then visitors of my site, who are not yet regisrted or not yet logged in, do not see any option to write a comment.
marketingwise, I would find it helpful, if the empty text box would appear the same way it does after beeing logged in.
With this enhancement, a visitor gets "attracted" to write something and also realize, that this is a board, where he can write something.
Only if the user tries to "send" his comment, a message shall appear: you have to be logged in to publish your reviw", or something like that.
Or (maybe more simple to do), show a bold text line under a new product upoad: "be the first to write a review about this product" similar to amazon
How could I do one of those ideas on my board?
Thanks in advance

You might want to make sure unregistered users have permission to comment as it will show if you have it set for guests to comment.

mmmmhh,
I thought also about this, but then the risk of trolls are very high. I would rather prefer to allow only registered people to write reviews
Any ideas how to make this with the least work?
Thanks in advance

Now you have confused me
Your first post said you wanted unregistered to post comments now you dont want to.
Set permissions in Admin => Edit Usergroups as you see fit |

no, I only want to SHOW the textbox to unregisterd users, but I do not want them to write without beeing registered.
I want to use the "visibility" of the text box as a "teaser". So new visitors see, that there should be normally a comment below the product, written by a user.
Currently, if there is no review yet about a product, nothing shows there below the product description that is a hint for a visitor that there could be more: No sign or indication for writing a review by the user himself.
If I visit amazon, there is always a textlink, that I also can write a review - although I am not logged in there (and I deleted my cookies).
If I click on that link, it tells me to login to be able to write a review. This is what I would like also to have
This is how you can motivate visitors better to participate and this will lead to more traffic...
(exact same problem with photopost by the way...)

You can post in our modifications forum should you wish to discuss code modification which fails outside product support.

Hi Chuck,
I made some testing and maybe it is easier to do than originally expected. Even without programming work.
If there is already one review about a product, this review appears also for non registered users by default, which is good.
At the same time, above this first review on the upper right hand, there is the text link for "Post a Reply".
If a non-registered user clicks on that link, the alert pops up: "You don't have permission to post reviews for products in this category."
So it seems that the required "behaviour" is already in place, only this link is hidden, if no Review was written yet.
Can I copy & paste this "Post a Reply" link from one file to another one? If yes, in which file/where do I find it and where to insert it?

post a reply only shows for users who have permission to post. You can change the conditional in showproduct.php if you wish.
