Zip Code more then 5 characters?

How do I.. get the Zip code to accept more then 5 characters.

Would like it to accept 9 digit american and 6 digit canadian postal codes.
I do not need to distance checker to function if this function cause issues with more then 5 characters.

Also would like to display the Zip Code field on page. Example of where I can Not get it to display here:

Using phpmyadmin change the zipcode field in the photopost products table from a varchar 5 field to a varchar 6 to do canadian

As far as the 9 digit you will break the app since effectively you will never be able to find and match a zipcode. The zipcode database is 5 digit period so 9 digit does not work.
