How to set the time zone properly?

I tried to set the time zone to the same time as our Vb board which is -5 GMT. The time stamps are way off... I have tried a few different settings, yet there doesn't seem to be any consistancy? What am I doing wrong?

Okay well vbulletin does time a little differently which is why we have this setting. You must set in our Admin => Global Options the GMT offset from your server timezone back to GMT to match VB

EXAMPLE

Thus if your server is central time from GMT -6 hours you must put a 6 in this setting to negate and bring time back to 0 offset
