Parent Permissions don't work 100%

When I "*Check box to apply these settings and permissions to all children:"

They all work except for "These checked usergroups can post to this category,
unless a usergroup's overall posting access is disabled."

I have to always unchecked, banned, user awaiting conf, and coppa user.

Just to let you know.

thanks!

Not sure what could be wrong there the code is pretty specific

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
If you update permissions no matter what you do the dochildren all that does is add the or cat equals thing.

i've complained about it for over a year now. Now i'm on a totally different server, newer mysql and php.

Chuck S March 30th, 2009 03:23 PM

Actually not really sure where this was reported that your saying you complained for a year. I did a quick check of your previous posts here.

Now however I just did a quick test. By default permissions are all on in a category setup until you set them. Now say I go in and edit Main say here on my clean install

Main Index - Omegatron.net Reviews

I uncheck banned and unregistered to not be able to post and click dochildren and if I go back and check my children of that specific Main cat it applies permissions to its specific children.

should I give you a test account on my site?

Sure you can do so. There has to be something more to this than what is reported.

Not a problem when I get into the office tomorow morning I will have a peek and let you know if I see anything.

Chuck S April 1st, 2009 08:19 AM

I checked out your site

These checked usergroups can post to this category,
unless a usergroup's overall posting access is disabled.

I set everyone can post and hit dochildren and indeed the subcats where updated. I then edited the parent cat and set permissions the way you had them and hit dochildren and the subcats where set correct.

So what am I missing?

Please watch this video.

It might help.

What I did there was create a new category called test. You can see that the child cats are not unchecked for the post group.

Chuck S April 1st, 2009 09:55 AM

I really cant tell what your doing with the video but I will outline the actions one needs to do to apply permissions.

If you create a new subcat its not going to inherit permissions automatically

Here are the steps needed.

1. Create your new subcat and you can do one of two things. You can set permissions accordingly on the editcats page for that cat or go on to 2

2. edit the main cat hit dochildren and hit save.

Thats it all subcats will have the parent permissions.

So judging on the actions I am doing it works according to how dochildren is coded.

I think your talking about another issue here instead.

You are expecting the subcat to pick up the permissions of the parent always regardless of dochildren when you create a new cat.

If thats the case in the new beta 4.1 I have added that ability

sorry for the first video. I was trying to save file size. watch this and you'll see.

Your video does not show anything above and beyond what I simply posted in my last post. ;)

You can try redownloading reviewpost 4.04 and upload adm-misc.php and pp-inc.php as I applied the change I did in the beta to help with applying permissions before dochildren.

As I said your issue has nothing to do with dochildren.

rcsmith01 April 1st, 2009 10:49 AM

so even though on the parent cat I hit apply to children the posting won't hold permissions? I don't get it.

Chuck S April 1st, 2009 11:08 AM

Your not doing the dochildren AFTER you create that subcat. If you created your subcat and then did the dochildren on the parent cat it works fine as I explained.

Your video showed that your doing this action backwards. As explained you can redownload 4.04 if you dont want to update to the beta and upload the two files noted in my post. I made a change to try and load the parent permissions when you create a new category. ThE WALK_TREE_VARS function did not grab post permissions which is totally separate from the dochildren function.

Your issue is your doing dochildren before you even create a subcats so all thats going to do is update its current children. Your test cat does not exist yet. Make sense now. Thats why dochildren would not work. It works fine for how its coded to update existing children to the parents permissions. it can not update a category that does not exist.
