unable to upload photos - what ELSE can go wrong?

I've searched and searched the forums, unable to come up with an answer for this.

Yesterday I was uploading products fine, photos were working perfectly. Suddenly today when I try I am getting this error:

Warning: move_uploaded_file(/home/leasa/public_html/reviews/data/136/2000016.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/leasa/public_html/reviews/image-inc.php on line 52

Unable to move file [/tmp/phpzZ3wCD] [/home/leasa/public_html/reviews/data/136/2000016.jpg]

permissions in data and uploads directory are all 777, even in their respective dir trees. It worked yesterday, why suddenly not today? Strange! Looks like it's not creating the directory 136 for the photos.

Have you viewed phpinfo to ensure safe mode is not on?

If your telling me permissions are 777 on data there should be a 136 directory under data and that needs to be 777 as well.

If safe mode is on the script can not create directories which is why it is a requirement to have it off.
