Reviewpost 5.0 Beta 3 -- Released 2-4-2010

Disclaimer/Word of Caution: As with any upgrade, particularly a BETA one, please backup your systems before performing the upgrade. Novice users should be extreme caution, as if you encounter problems we will need to ask you questions about your setup to try and resolve any issues (and may ask you to modify code or your setup). If you are unsure about doing these things, you should not install or use this BETA update. Support for the BETA product will expire with each new update and not be supported at all past the BETA cycle.

=======================
VERSION UPDATE: 5.00 BETA 3
=======================
ReviewPost 5.0 is a start of a major update with features users have requested. Features etc will be added as time permits.

New features:

. vB4 support
. SEO URLs (requires .htaccess file)
. Single URLs for images
. 301 redirects to SEO pages for spider and normal URLs
. SEO URLs enabled in Admin -> Edit Settings -> Global Options (choices are none, spider, seo)

Upgraded files

/*.php (except config-inc.php.NEW, config-intr.php.NEW, inc_reviews.php, inc_reviewpost.php)

forums/vb3.php (you only need this file if you are using the vb registration system)

templates/vb4enhanced/* (new directory)

There is no upgrade script from beta 2 to beta 3 just replace all main php files and the vb4enhanced templates directory

How many beta versions of Reviewpost are planned in total, provided things go smoothly obviously, before we get to a stable gold type release? (not asking for a timescale, cause that would be silly) Or as a point, how many beta versions are there normally?

There are normally a few beta versions. If I need some extended time I can always do some RC releases. Here is the deal as best I can explain it. I put out because of the vb4 release 3 active betas on Photopost Pro, Classifieds and ReviewPost. Now obviously thats not the norm here. Usually I run one product beta at a time. I also only usually work with Classifieds and ReviewPost. However I kinda took the lead on the vb4 integration stuff since Michael was busy with vbGallery which required a large overhaul.

Work order was done obviosly based on customer base meaning Pro was taken care of first and then Classifieds second. Classifieds has gone GOLD as of this past week. Thus now ReviewPost is the only one left.

Now the good part about having all 3 products in beta for an extended time was that most bugs in the SEO etc where found and squashed. Thus ReviewPost beta 3 should be pretty well solid GOLD in a way because any issues reported from PhotoPost and Classifieds on the new SEO and vb4 stuff has been applied to ReviewPost. The main reason it is still in beta is because I will be looking to add a couple new features into it. Thus I turn my attention to our suggestions forum and see what I can add to make users happy.

I think I'm missing something... I've downloaded the latest beta but don't see anything in the documentation or configuration about VB4?

Right, I saw in those post about the VB4 support. I downloaded the beta package from the downloads page, but I don't see anything in there about VB4. The install doc doesn't reference it, the install tool references VB3 (such as the license number field) and in Step 4 (configuring the external user registration) it shows VB 2.x and VB 3 but nothing about 4.

Thanks for the help.
