Anything major coming up?

Hi Chuck,

My license expired some time ago and I wonder if you have anything major cooking for an upcoming release? I'm currently using PP 8.2 and have not found anything in 8.4 that my site needs at this point. I'm using vb3 and will move to xf in spring.

8.42 definately integrates with xenforo better than we do in vb 3 or 4. There have been tons of changes in the 8 series as a whole. I would suggest you check out all the various announcements.

I just got done with 3 releases all in a row this year and just released various versions. After the holidays is when I will look at what specific things I will get into and work on the next beta version. You can as always place any suggestions in the suggestions forum.

As I am on vbulletin3 now, the functions in 8.4 are not relevant for me now. They will be in the course of next year.

I think the most important thing is to make PP look more modern. PP8 was already a fairly large step in the right direction, but it still shows that PP has been coded long ago. There are some simple steps that can be taken though:
- add more jquery effects / lightboxes
- crop thumbs to squares. This will allow a much better display of images.
- use text overlays on thumbs
- kill all whitespace on category view.
- add redactor

That is already a feature for those using Imagemagick. It is called uniform thumbnails.

Interesting. I have this turned on, but my index page does not show cropped images. It still shows landscape and portrait thumbs instead of squares. How do I do this?

Are you using Imagemagick as noted in the setting? If you are and uniform thumbnails is turned on you would have to rebuild your thumbnails and it will show center cropped square thumbnails.

AH I see. no imagemagick on my server.

Chuck S December 1st, 2013 12:05 PM

Yep that would explain it as that feature uses Imagemagick.

I will investige what features GD2 can be added. I will be opening the beta forum soon for users to post there suggestions then right after the holidays as I noted I will begin work on a new beta. ;)
