Maybe make your edit via ftp and try. I do not see anything that would be a parse error with what I have placed there.

Edit via FTP? I use Notepad++ to edit the file, backup the original via FTP then upload the new one. Have you tried this on your server? If so, can you attach the .tpml or send it to me?

should work fine try reapplying it
I did a little test in my test classifieds since the code is the same except the html i did different. i added it in plugin format and it worked fine.
You should be able to apply it without issue. i changed it some as the initial one showed the entire menu2 http://www.omegatron.net/classifieds/index.php |

Thank you. That worked. I changed a little bit of the wording to customize it towards our gallery, but this works perfectly. Thank you and I appreciate it.

Our users also want notification of comments. We operate on version 8.22. Is this available as a plug in? I didnt see it, but wanted to ask to be sure. (I am a total noob, so please forgive me for not having a good grasp of this stuff)
I reviewed this thread and tried the code given. I did not get any errors, but I didnt get any new comment messages either.
I'm wondering if one of these threads will give me the result I am after, but since there arent any screen prints I'm not sure and nervous about breaking the site:
(well, I cant post links, but here they are without the www)

Notification means subscribing to a photo or a category if you want overall notification of any action in a specific category. This has been a feature since day 1.
Users whom post the actual photo can elect whether or not they want notification of comments on there photo.
If you hit the notification link when viewing a photo you will get an email when a comment is made on a specific photo
if you hit the subscribe to category link when viewing a category any new photo or new comment made in that category you will get an email.

I understand that part. But what our users want is exactly what the original poster wanted- and the reason why I added to this thread instead of starting a new one.
They don't want email. They want that cute little message at the top that tells them they have new comments. I tried the code you gave her- but the message doesn't show up. Quote:

| You mention changing things- but I have no idea what you would have changed or why to make it work.

the discussion your referencing is about some hack they where doing to there menubar. Your free to discuss with that specific user in the mod forums and hack ideas but this is the support forum. Just like I told them I can not discuss mods. This thread is about many different things some support related and then some where questions about hacks. You note I stated I could not assist with hacks.
I could not tell you what they did.

Please understand that I am not asking what they did. I'm asking to understand what YOU stated that YOU did. I quoted YOU in my previous post. Not Fortissimo. And I thought I was being polite in asking in a thread discussing the code that YOU placed in the thread on the exact same issue.

And you have not addressed this part of my question- will either of these give me the result I am after? There are no screen prints of exactly what they do so I wasnt sure? Quote:

That mod your linking shows recent comments on the vb4 CMS as it clearly says.
I already addressed all this in my previous reply. I stated you are free to install or use any mod you find. Our company does not discuss or support code modifications. We support our code as it is written. This is all explained in the announcement in the mod forum. http://www.photopost.com/forum/photo...uncements.html
I do not believe you have made it clear what you want. I do beleive I clearly explained how notifications work in our program. Users who want notification will definately be emailed when there is a new comment on a photo.
The only hack here the user was trying to do is get a notices thing on the vb4 integrated gallery. For that you would do this http://www.photopost.com/forum/1302212-post18.html
That was posted as is for a user to try.

Chuck, I would really like to see this as part of future versions of Photopost.
Think about it this way. On Facebook a user has the option to be notified when there are new things in their Newsfeed. I also have the option to be sent an email. Photopost should be set up the same way. The idea of having notifications sent to email box is kind of antiquated and on a busy site, that gets a lot of comments, no one wants to get 50 emails about the same image... just as I do not want to get 50 emails from Facebook telling me that my friends have posted on their page.
You already have the functionality in the software and the nice navbar that it could be integrated into, so I would think that this is not something that would take to long to be added.

what are you referring to? Are you referring to your specific menu system you created for your site and no one else uses.

What I am requesting is attached.
If there was a new comment, it would show in ( ). When they clicked on comments it would direct to the page that it used to direct to.
gallery/member.php?protype=6 (for me it is)

Right but your talking about some hack you did.
The only comment here that I ever responded to is this http://www.photopost.com/forum/1302212-post18.html
Clearly this was some other menu system you where trying to doing back then. Obviously you have changed what your doing. The post there helped you mod things so you could display a notification area box.
If your making comments about some mod your doing maybe you might want to post what your doing so I know how to comment.
Otherwise all I have to comment on is parts of old posts and mod discussions that have no reflection on what your doing or talking about now. |

Just say thank you when a customer does this. It goes a long way with building customer loyalty and respect.

I implement alot of things into the application customers want. You know this first hand. I asked for clarification and you have not provided that instead you post your comment above. Remember this entire thread was how to you modify my application so you can achieve a mod result you want. I do not know what you did because it is not posted here and the results you have now have nothing to do with any mod discussed.
I go out of my way to assist people outside the support parameters but if things are going to get confrontational that makes me want to stop assisting people outside the normal support parameters.

The photo I attached was a mock up I did in Photoshop as an example of how you could take the existing menu system and existing capabilities in the stock code and move the notifications to that area. Would you like me to create a new thread asking for this feature?
