Poor QA

I am always finding something....

During the upgrade, selecting "8.0x to 8.1" reads:

This install script will upgrade your 7.0x to 8.0. Only run this upgrade if you have the 7.0x version of the database in place (either by previous upgrades or if upgrading in order to the latest).

Minor yes but still... I am sitting there wondering if this is going to screw things up if I continue and I should not have that feeling for software I pay for.

You are no stranger to software you run our software and vbulletin.

8.0 came out some time ago and any bugs found have been minor usually involved template formatting etc. The whole point of 8.1 was mobile support and vb navbar.

One might find a couple minor bugs in a version but for the most part our software does not even compare to the issues that are consistently found in vbulletin.

Oh I know vb has issues but I feel 99% confident that my upgrade will not fail. I want that feeling with PP but lately it's been more about 90%.

Like i stated number one issue people have had is regarding to reading and following the documentation. I can make wording changes to clarify.

The point being in your case is you are not finished the upgrade. I think you will find things work fine once you finish.

The process is pretty much the same although some stuff has changed hense our notes to read the documentation. It is you old timers who are making the mistakes

Well that works if you are updating your gallery that is still true. However as I noted your using vbulletin and you must complete the other steps noted. Those steps are as they are defined.

The upgrade process is documented fully. Like I said I can make wording changes if there is something that confuses a customer but the process is the process. If you do not finish the process noted in the upgrade documentation then you have not completed the upgrade process fully.

We have no control over whether someone follows the documentation. With the release of PhotoPost 8 we clearly state to read that documentation since we include plugins for vbulletin which must be installed into vbulletin by you for things to function correctly with that product.

The forums here for the past 6 months are littered with posts of varying degrees where people have not read the upgrade documentation and post issues that could have been resolved by reading that documentation.

Remember all these vbulletin plugins your complaining about where never part of the process they where a mod posted in the mod forums.

When I go to the "Generate vBulletin Plugin XML" I get the error below and yes, I set the permissions for the 3 files.

<br /><strong>Warning</strong>: file([path]/photos/install/source-vb42.xml) [<a href='function.file'>function.file</a>]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in <strong>[path]/photos/adm-plugin.php</strong> on line <strong>89</strong><br /><br /><strong>Warning</strong>: Variable passed to each() is not an array or object in <strong>[path]/photos/adm-plugin.php</strong> on line <strong>92</strong><br />

Steve that error is most definately a permissions error indicating the xml files are not 777 permissions or the file does not exist.

I will take a look if you want but but definately thats the only answer I know of with that error.

I am not sure what instructions your reading. This is what is posted in both the upgrade and install text files in the documentations folder of our downloaded code.

Quote:
IMPORTANT - FOR VBULLETIN 4 ONLY. New plugins included in download.

In the install directory set permissions on the file product_pppro.xml, source-vb4.xml and source-vb42.xml files to 777

2. Go to your photopost admin panel and hit the option to generate vbulletin plugin xml. That file will download to your computer.

3. Go into your vbulletin admin panel ( http://www.yoursite.com/gallery/adm-index.php ) and under plugins & products select the option to manage products. You can then use the add/import product option
and upload the xml file you downloaded to your computer called product_pppro.xml file. Once that is done your forum will show gallery content.

4. Thats it your done!!

Please read the CHANGELOG.TXT FILE so you know what to expect from version upgrades.
This is what is on our very site as well under support for install instructions

Strange... it appears on the mac readme file it is adding a "2" to the end of a number of places. I'd post a screencap but we don't have that ability.

Yeah can not say what your issue is reading the text file there is no 7772 anywhere in our documentation so your reader is making changes

Your navigation looks fine. The only issue I see if your input box is aligned left and most likely an issue in something different in your custom style. I use the default vb style and things are center aligned.

A community photo gallery - ReefTalk Gallery

I took a little look at your css there are alot of defines input defines in there so could not pick a specific area to say to look.

I am not sure what your talking about to be honest. Next to what home link? We never had navigation links other than the menubar which is what shows in your navbar now when the gallery tab is active and the category childnav shows as it always has in the cathead template or member head templates.

Are you talking about the childnav breadcrumb it still displays as it has.
