Proper re-installing procedure

Hi,

What is the proper procedure to re-install PPP?

I'm worried that I'll lose the old data.

And, will that fix the current integration problem I am having now? (ie. usernames between vb and PPP are getting jumbled up.)

Thanks!

Well how about you explain what more is going on? Usernames are not going to be jumbled up as you say unless of course your switching an integration which means users are not going to be the same

I definately need more background info to proper answer your question.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the reply.

We have discussed this before via email and your solution was that my Photopost was not properly installed and that I have to re-install it.

So I am ready to do it now and that's why I posted the question above.

What I mean by jumbled up is that say I am user name "Bob" I go and post a picture in my Gallery, when I'm done, I am at the Gallery of "Jim" and it says that "Jim" posted the picture.

Thanks.

I talk with alot of people daily etc. You have switched integrations there is only so much that can be done about that.

You can try this script

Reassign userid's when switching integrations to VBulletin

There are no guarantees things will align perfectly as you have switched your integrations so only if all usernames exist in the new forum can you realign the photos. If not they will be orphaned and owned by no one.

Hi Chuck,

No I did not switch integrations.

Here's our conversation:

Quote:
ME:

¨So how can I fix?

Thanks.¨

Chuck:

¨Hello

I would suggest that you actually install Photopost to integrate with your vbulletin or rather maybe the proper vbulletin database maybe.

If users have changed names have you ran the update username function in scan database in admin of photopost?

Thats the first step reinstalling and making sure it is integrated correctly because your login is not working correctly

You may need to make sure your using the latest code from us as well. I am very limited on what I see since you did not provide a working admin login¨

Chuck:

¨Hello

No the gallery is not installed correct that I see.¨

ME:

Can you fix this?

Chuck:

¨Hello

As previously stated you would need to properly install your gallery to integrate with the forum if that is what your trying to do.¨
Thank you.

Post your site url and example of your issue and I will explain based on what I see. As I said if your data does not match up then you would have had to switch integrations meaning they where never installed together correctly in the first place.

Bob is user 20 in forum

Bob is user 15 in photopost

That is an absolute issue meaning they where never installed together see what I mean. That is why it is so important on the support forums to post your info so I am not left guessing.

Sample

Hi Chuck,

Sent you an email with logins at sales@photopost.com

Here's an example:

See on the upper right, I am log-in as "sabmovie"

When I click Classifieds, I am now "wise breaker"

Thank you.

I will check the email but that sure looks like what I am saying. Its pretty cut and try. Your integrating with vb and there cookie stores the userid and your coming back as another user.

With the login I am given I am logged in as that proper user.

Like I said there are a couple things to consider here and really I cant answer because I do not run your site and know the proper info.

1. Make sure when you install you make sure the vb database your integrating with is correct.

2. Check the userid for the user if you have a different username tell me do the userid's match just the names are wrong?

If so like I said your data from the gallery can not be from this vb install which means you have switched integrations. There is NO other answer unless its just a simple username change if the userid is right.

You have two options.

If you click your gallery and the photos are indeed yours and just your name has changed and the userid's are correct you can use the tool in admin scan database to update usernames on photos and comments.

If the photos are not yours then you have switched integrations and need to run the utility I linked above to update the userid's based on username.

Only you know the correct answer here not me. You keep telling me you have not switched integrations yet all supporting data says so. If this gallery was a standalone and then you later integrated with your forum then you switched integrations. The other side of the coin is you can change usernames in the forum and if thats the case we have a thing for that in admin to update the names.

it is all about knowing what the correct answer is to provide a solution.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for your patience.

Let me try and explain what happened:

I have been running VB with Photopost Gallery and Classifieds for several years now with no problems.

Then, sometime in September 2010, I upgraded VB as well as PP Gallery and Classifieds. Still no problems.

Then, I had a DB crash sometime in December and had to restore from backup. Then these problems started.

Also, it doesn't happen to every user. Like you said, the username I gave you worked out well. But, it happens to some. I don't know exactly how many as I've only gotten about 10 complaints about it.

So there, that's what I know.

I hope that helps.

Thanks.

And if this problem is too deep, maybe I can avail of the services you provide?

Regards.

I am trying to assist and your backups can be suspect I mean we cant say the data is realiable.

For me to answer which action I laid out for you to try to resolve your issue I need my question answered.

These users whom say there gallery username is different than there vb name when they view there photos etc are the photo's theirs or someone else's?

We need to know whether its a userid or a username issue. All par for the course when we are talking username changes or integration switching.

Then I would suggest you run the download in post 4. If the photo information correspondes to different users then you switched integrations. Photos are uploaded and the userid and username are recorded when the photo is uploaded. If that information does not jive with your current install there is no other explanation.

Hi,

I ran it.

Photos and Comments returned this error:

"We're sorry, but the system experienced an unrecoverable error. Please try again later."

Gallery said it was successful, but there was no difference. The problem persists.

well something is not right with your site then. You can make sure your logged in as admin and add this line to the custom script you downloaded where noted in muptiple places and see if that gives you a more precise error so you know what the real issue is.

Did it.

Added: authenticate(); below require "pp-inc.php"; in 3 places in the script.

Ran it again and same output as post #15.

Thank you.

well then you can not be logged in as admin

The message you get of an issue shows me you have the debug setting of photopost to display errors. If your logged in as admin then you should see the true error not the generic message you see here.
