Exclamation Test installation affects live site.

I copied my site for testing purposes. Unfortunately, running 2 versions of my installation didnt go well.
Even though they are two different databases with different database users somehow the configurations get mixed up. I dont know why.

As it was a copy of my live site, my test installation had the same settings as the live site. I changed this in the admin and the config files.
The effect was that not only the test site got updated with the test database settings, but also the live site got those settings.

Now every time I try to change it back, it has no effect.

What do I do now?

It seems that somehow the live database details are still in datastore. How do I flush this?

If you are cloning your database you need to do this

1. copy your files to a new directory.

2. copy your database tables to a new database.

3. edit your config file and point to the new database and server paths etc.

4. run the install script on your new test install to correct all paths urls etc or manually edit your settings table on this new database with the new info.

I would suspect if editing your test install messes with your main install you have not edited your config file with the proper database info.
