Backing up & Upgrading

Hi guys, i have photopost 5.5 installed and want to upgrade to latest version.
Can i do the upgrade directly ? Or should i install a middle version ?

Also, when trying to backup i get these errors:

Make sure you have the proper full server path to a backup directory you create thats 777 permissions

As far as upgrading you would upload everything except the 2 config files and install file

You then run the upgrades from 5.5 forward once.
