Need help with installation

Having trouble getting past step 3

Start with the simple

When it asks for PhotoPost Database Host

What specifically do I put in here the full address to the site? do I leave at localhost need some clues here I have tried a buch of things but nothing seems to work. Of course the problem could be in another area but i want to make sure i have this right first.

Thanks
Wayne

You would simply put the correct database host username password and database name for your specific site.

If your installing into vb database you can open your vb config file in there includes directory to get the database info.

once I get this line right I will go from there

I have set up the databases the same way i did when installing vb4 it worked for that but i can can photopost to work

ok this is not going well is there a way to get help in a more private fashion? I am getting errors when trying to open header-inc.php and there is no sign of photopost on my site. I knew I did not want to use the forum databases. Do you have a ticket system i do not see any?

Thanks
Wayne

You can use the contact us in the site header to send site info but I would suggest you read this first if your getting header-inc.php issue

header include is not the next step in an install. The install is contained in the actual install script which needs to be ran to completion correctly.

what is the url to your gallery?

Not sure where i got the ting about the header bit i read that somewhere and got suck on the

Now I cannot get past
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in ...................................... on line 32

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in ......................................... on line 4047

I have tried everything
If I change any of the database info in the first part it does not get to part 4 and I put in exactly the prefix that is in the config-inc file

I do not want to post the location of my files in a public forum. i just had another board hacked in infected with malware and do not want to go thru that again.

I'm at a loss can't seem to get past this every time i do a rerun of the install I have to delete the database and reinstall or I get like 2 pages of errors in step 3

need some more clues i am sure it is something simple missed

I read the common errors thing you sent and looked for all that

Is this a bug with VB4 and your soft?

Seems to be working now and this is the part that has me banging my head on the desk

on the very last page of the install on the first line it asks for the site location of the forum, the install defaults to putting this under the photopost dir as in ###/photopost/forum which is wrong because the forum is not a sub of pp

So i have been changing that to the correct location
I decided to let it use the default which i knew would not work because i missed that it was changing this on me before and it would not work before
so this time using the default it once again did not work

So I changed it back to EXACTLY what it was before

now it works

Why now and not before i do not have a clue. I am guessing something was being reset by the install routine that I could not control

I'm sorry but reviewing this thread you asked for that information once to which i responded that I am not comfortable posting that information on a public forum. If you will tell me just what you need I can email or PM that information to you. Please do not lose patience with me for seeking assistance in this installation. The software documentation is only a single page for what appears to be a complicated install. I am doing my best here and frankly think i am doing rather well as i have solved most my problems to this point largely on my own. I am not trying to be a jerk here although I confess a level of frustration at the difficulty of this process and perhaps that is coming through in these communications. I apologize for that.

To pass along details you dont want public you can follow the advise in post 6. Thats the first time I asked for site details. Essentially it is very hard to assist anyone when all you can say is it doesnt work. The only real definable issue you posted about I did respond to with a link. So really I need to see your site to respond further. The install works 30000 customers cant be wrong.

What information exactly do you need? the web site address? the paths to photopost? the paths to the forum? password? I will send what you need via email.

Like I said in #14 I have set up photopost, got as far as being able to get into the admin panel, I then checked paths in that. So Far everything seems ok

Now I need to know how to get it to work with VB4, what do I need to do to get it to show up in the forum, I have gone through the documentation but have not found anything there. it is possible I missed something.

I thought I had asked specific questions and gave as much information as possible in my requests for help, I am sincerely trying to learn something here and did not think I was just whining it does not work.

So the point I am at is the software is installed, the admin panel works and I have adjusted paths in that so that everything seems ok with that. I need to know how to get phoptpost to show up in the forum. Let me know what information you need from me and I will send it to you.

well the information needed to generally provide support is stickied here in this very forum

Helpful Info To Provide When Asking Questions

The problem I see it started happening about two years ago people just stop giving site names etc so its hard to provide any kind of support when your flying blind and it takes 5 times as long to answer someone to really know what they are talking about when seeing is worth 1000 words.

For example all these messages back and forth and finally I see you say photopost is not showing up on your forum. Well simple answer is photopost is not suppose to show when your on your forum. Photopost is suppose to show up when your on your photopost. These are separate full featured applications.

You kept telling us photopost is not showing up but you said you fixed your path errors so we assumed here that your photopost does not show when you go to your photopost

http://www.projectboatzen.com/gallery

Thats why I am confused you will place a link to your site here but not to your gallery?

Thats what I am trying to see if your actually operational. If your gallery is operational and you can get to it and use it you could possibly try using this vb plugin to show some gallery content on your forum but thats something outside our core program

http://www.photopost.com/forum/1255298-post1.html

I hope this clarifies the issue as it now finally appears you do not have any install issues.

I really am sorry I am very confused and you and I seem to be having problems communicating. I promise you I am not trying to be difficult here or be belligerent. Honestly I am just trying to figure this out but I guess part of my problem is I do not know what I am looking for as there does not seem to be any documentation to guild me.

Ok and correct me if I am wrong but I thought photopost worked within the forum I see this on other sites. Are you saying it is a stand alone product and I have to provide a link to it from within the forum?

I'm sorry I really do not understand Like I said I set photo post up went to the admin panel and adjusted the settings there but now what? I simply do not know what to do next?

The site is www. projectboatzen.com

I will email you the full server info

honestly I am not trying to be difficult here or be an ass but I get the feeling you think I am. I am trying to understand this. I am new to this stuff and do not have the knowledge you do.

So I guess I do need to see if the gallery is operational but how do I do that? Like I said I do not know what to do next after setting up the admin panel, is there a galley to go to now and if so how do I do that.

The link you sent www.projectboatzen/gallery does not work is that what i am supposed to be trying to get to work? there is no such directory on my site should there be?

This is why I asked for clues I am working in the dark i followed the instruction in the install info but then came to a end I just need to know what i am supposed to do next.

Like I say I am honestly not trying to be difficult I am just trying to get some help with this. We just seem to be having trouble understanding each other here. I am trying
