| Thumbnails under images in v7
Hi. I just upgrade to 7 and everything is working ok.
Just a little problem, after the upgrade a ton of thumbs appear under the images messing everything up in the layout.
I already found the 1-3 option for the "thumbnail preview columns" but they make the width much bigger than the site, having to scroll horizontally to see everything.
Of course this was not happening before the upgrade.
Is there a new option so the width of the "thumbnail preview columns" match the site, as it happens in index ?
I mean the with of the table where all the thumbnails appear under a photo and not the width of a thumbnail itself.
Thanks.

well you can as always turn off the preview images in showphoto options. They where there before version 7 but always as 1 row. In 7 you can do 1 or 3 rows.

Now there are 7 images in each row, making the site much more wider than before, making a horizontal scroll appear to see them. (just when the thumbs apear)
Is there a way to have 6 images instead ? or 5 ? That way the thumbs will not affect the site itself, as it was in previous version.
Thanks.

Thanks.

In Admin => Show Photo Options the option is right in there to show your previous next thumbs left right top or bottom.

Why does this change in v7 ? Now I have an horrible horizontal scroll in my gallery because of this.
Can you please tell me which file calls those 7 images so I can change the value to 5 ? its not good that the thumbs break the site in this version. (maybe something to fix in v7.0.1)
Its ok if I need to change the core code to make this display as the previous version.
Thanks.

Now I just have one last thing to fix.
Now there are 5 thumbs displaying correctly under my images, but when I click the previous or next buttons at the sides, 7 images comes in, instead of 5.
Can you please point me to the file is called or file I need to edit ?
By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy new Year to all.
Thanks.

Hi RobertG, yes, its really bad this happens, hopefully its fixed in a next version.
You have to edit showphoto.php in line 432 modifying the following to suit your needs, this is mine: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
But there are problems after that, because you also need to edit showframe.php with some bad results, let me explain.
When you edit the first file, it shows 5 thumbs and its correct, so you will think it worked, but the problem comes when clicking the sides for more photos.
That buttons call showframe.pho and pull in 7 images again breaking the site. If you hit refresh, they show ok, but the side buttons disappear, sometimes the left one and sometimes the right one.
So you have to edit both files and play for hours to see if you have luck and make it work as it was before the update breaks it all.
I left the first file edited and will try to fix it later with the second one, as I give it a shot with no luck, maybe with more time.
If you fix it, please share the solution also.
Peter.

For what it is worth, I would also like to see a fix for this in a future update.
Using it as a horizontal strip breaks the site layout which looks silly. The vertical strip corrects the layout issue but is still too long at 7 images. If corrected, certainly would prefer the horizontal filmstrip photo preview layout.

The official answer if using a fixed width site is to run no sidebar and use the previews on the left or right

We are having the same problem as well. I hope this will be resolved so that we don't have to hack the PHP files when we roll out the upgrade on our live site. If it's causing problems for this many customers, maybe it's something worth calling a bug, not a feature. |

This is not a bug in anyway sorry.
You have a next/previous thumbnail block that can show one or three rows on top bottom left or right of your image. You can turn this block off or on.
If you restrict your site width to a small width then you need to use the condition that works with your site most likely 1 row on the left or right or you can turn it off. Right of left with one row should work for most sites.
The real issue here is exactly how much information can you constrain in certain width.
For example if you have a fixed width of 750pixels and your medium image is 700 pixels and you want to show 3 columns of thumbnails at 100 pixels to the right of the photo how would you ever expect things to be constrained in that width. Simply put its impossible.

Thank you for the quick reply and the explanation!
I don't doubt that we can work around it, but in the old version it worked one way and now we have to hack the code to make it work the same way. That was my only issue. Other than that, so far the upgrade looks great! Keep up the good work! |

well the new way is not really all that different from the old way just adds the ability to have 3 instead of 1 columns so it looks more inline with other sites like facebook etc. Sites nowadays are going to a more horizontal layout not vertical so this enables the software to compete. As stated the option is highly flexible so many options there.
