Watermark Question

Ok there are several differerent watermark options within the control panel...they are appear to do the same thing, am I wrong? What is the difference?

I am trying to watermark photos so that when viewed have the watermark, however, when / if downloaded, do not. Is this possible? It seems I have attempted every different combination of settings and they all permanently watermark the image.

Thanks in advance!!

The watermark options in internet protection settings are ON THE FLY watermarking so what you need to do is place the full server path to a png watermark where it is asked and then turn on the on the fly watermark switch not the regular watermark options.

OK so here are the settings I have:

Enable watermarking of photos with overlay image? No

Enable on-the-fly image protection? Yes

When using on-the-fly image generation, do you want to overlay the watermark image? Yes

This produces a permanent watermark

Enable on-the-fly image protection

This option uses the watermark.php script to serve images
When using on-the-fly image generation, do you want to overlay the watermark image?
You can use this feature for on-the-fly watermarks in combination with the on-the-fly image generation.

Full server path to watermark overlay image.

Yes to those does not do a permanent watermark only when you turn on watermarking under the watermark options can you have a permanent watermark.

Hmmm then something is not working, cause when I have those settings as you described, when I view and image, right click and save as...the saved image has a watermark?

well that would only be because you already permanently watermarked an image

YOU DO NOT TURN THIS ON in watermark options

Enable watermarking of photos with overlay image?

Ok then that actually answers my other idea then...I was trying to right click save as, however, since it has the copyright overlaid, that is why it is showing if I download (cause it is feeding through PP and be watermarked)

If the file is directly downloaded and not served through PP, that is why the watermark is not showing.

Thanks, I feel a tad less stupid now...not a lot but a little. Appreciate your time!

Yeah well right clicking a watermarked image will result in a watermarked image being saved yes. Usually people using that function disable right click because the watermark script is part of the image protection settings.
