Question Errors on Installation

Hi,

Im currently trying to run a trial installation on my personal domain to ensure that the installation would go smoothly on the main site that i hope to install this on. I will be removing the installation from my personal domain once im confident it will work.

While trying to run the install.php file, im getting the following error:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
You will be able to see the error here:

Trial Installation Error

I was hoping to update the relevant database values, username and passwords through the install process but couldnt do so since i was running into these errors.

I then proceeded to alter the config.inc.php and the config.int.php manually but that didnt work. I had also changed the file permissions to 777 as indicated in the installation manual. All did not seem to work.

Ive also already created the backend database as part of the steps above but since i havent actually ran the install, the database wouldnt be populated.

Here are more information:

# Tell us what server operating system you are running. Windows? Flavor of Linux? What version is it? Service packs or other updates applied?

Linux.

# Tell us what version of PHP and MySQL you are running.

PHP Version 5.2.6
MySQL 5.0.67

# Tell us whether the server in question is a dedicated host or if it is a shared host.

Shared host

# Tell us if the server is under your control or if you are leasing/renting/borrowing hosting space from someone else.

Its a leased hosting space from NZWEBIT.com and im the account owner for this space.

# Give us a URL that links us straight to your PhotoPost installation. If it is a private installation that limits access to unregistered guests, give us a dummy account to use that actually has access to the photos

Do let me know if more information is required. Appreciate some assistance.

Just as a further note. I had uploaded the zip file onto the webhost and extracted it using the web hosters file extraction feature so as to maintain the folder structure. Based on what i can see, all the relevant files are there.

Did you rename the config files taking off the new extention? Basically the server is not running PHP or is not liking the file permissions. Your server error logs should have more of an error for you to post so we can have something to go on. Thats a pretty generic server message

Hi Chuck,

Yes i did rename the respective files to config-inc.php and config-int.php.

The message did look very generic.

This server currently runs a joomla CMS which i had installed in a similar fashion and just checked that the site is still running so PHP is definitely still working.

I had made a copy of the phpbb3 forums from the actual site (FrontPage) and installed it onto my personal web hoster. The forum currently runs well on my personal web hoster.

The file permissions were set to 777 for both files.

Are there any other things i should be looking out for or might have missed as part of this installation?

I would suggest try uploading it the regular way via ftp and set permissions as noted in the install instructions and see what happens.

Hi Chuck,

It definitely seems to be web hoster specific. The error comes up on my personal domain but when i uploaded the file to the actual domain that this was meant to be installed on, the install.php file loads normally and i can proceed with the install.

All steps performed on both domains were exactly the same so i can only guess that the file permissions are the only difference. Apart from the config files, what should the permissions be for the other folders and files be? At present they have a combination of 644,666 and 755. Too many to list out exactly which permissions belong to which folder.

Any info you can provide would be useful.

Im a little hesitant on performing the install straight on the live site without testing this on a mock site first.
